Website of the week.....

PubMed offers millions of health and science articles from a slew of sources, including life science journals, online books, and MEDLINE.

The free resource covers fields such as health, life sciences, behavioral sciences, and much more.

Though some of the site's abstracts are expert-oriented, PubMed is also valuable for those who get freaked out at a medical appointment and want to race home and look up whatever diagnosis or medication the doctor just gave them. Instead of randomly searching the web for information that might or might not be accurate, PubMed is a reliable, one-stop reference.

You can also access PubMed through the Wallkill Public Library's website. Just click "Online Research Tools" and go into "RCLS Reference and Magazine Article Databases."

No one's keeping Quiet about this book

Historically, introverts have gotten a bad rap. Our society is one that seems to have long preferred the talkers to the listeners, the joiners to the homebodies, the "team players" to the independent workers.

Take heart, extrovert wannabes! Susan Cain's Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking reminds us that at least one-third of the people we know are introverts. And though they are often labeled "quiet," it is to introverts we owe many of the great contributions to society - from van Gogh's sunflowers to the invention of the personal computer.
You don't have to be quiet yourself to make noise about this book - it's a fascinating, well-researched read!

Volunteers needed for book store

With warmer weather on the way (hopefully), the Friends' Used Book Shop will be expanding its hours, and could use some volunteers to help out.

If you love books and meeting new people, this is the job for you! Whether you can only work an hour every couple of weeks or on a more regular basis, we'd appreciate your help!

Those interested should contact the library at 895-3707 and leave a message for Paulette or Leslie.

Coffee Table Art for sale now!
Local artist Cliff Burgess has set up a display of his work in the glass case of the library's front lobby.
Burgess' "coffee table art" is comprised of painted models of book displays that would look great on any shelf or end table.
Be sure to take a peak next time you're in - the display also features classic LIFE Magazine and Saturday Evening Post covers.
And if you're interested in purchasing one of the pieces, please ask at the front desk!
