Wallkill Public Library
Make us your source
for great programming

After-school programming is often the first casualty of school budgets crippled by state aid cuts and tax caps.
As alarming as that possibility is, the Wallkill Public Library has a solution: Rely on us for quality programming that's both fun and educational!
Of course the library has suffered its share of blows as a result of the depressed economy, also. We struggle daily to find ways in which to provide our children with a meaningful exposure to the arts, literature, and other creative outlets.
The Pepsi Refresh Project is our chance to shine and your opportunity to guarantee your children the top-notch programming they deserve. The library could receive a $50,000 grant from Pepsi that would go toward this programming, but we need all the votes we can get in order to win.
The good new is you can vote for the library's project every single day until Dec. 30, and you can vote for us more than once a day if you choose to text and Facebook your votes on top of voting online. All you need to do is click the Vote Now button on our website's homepage. That will bring you directly to the site where you can place your vote. You do need to register in order to vote, but that's just to guard against fraudulent voting.
You can also log on to Facebook and vote, or - and this is the easiest, quickest way - text 110765 to Pepsi (73774) from your mobile. For those who've experienced frustration with the Pepsi website, texting is the way to go!
Send Pepsi your vote(s) each and every day until the end of the month, and we'll be on our way to offering the children of our community the extra-curricular experience they deserve! Thanks for your help!
Last chance to win a Kindle or Nook!
You can still win an Amazon Kindle (first prize) or Nook Simple Touch (second) during the Friends of the Wallkill Public Library's raffle drawing Monday, Dec. 12! But time is running out - get your tickets soon!
Stop by the library and pick up one ticket for $3 or four for $10 at the circulation desk.
Some of the features of the Kindle include a one-month battery life, adjustable text size, and the ability to store 1,400 books.
The Nook also features adjustable text size, an easy-to-use touchscreen, and boasts the longest battery life.
Both can be used to borrow eBooks from the library, of course! These eReaders make great gifts, too - whether it be to the special reader in your life or yourself! So stop in today and take a chance on winning one!
Local holiday discounts continue

This month your library card is not only your key to great books, films, and other entertainment, but a coupon good at most local shops and eateries!

Show your Wallkill Public Library card around town and receive special discounts through Dec. 31. You could get 10 percent off a bottle of wine at O'Willy's Wine and Liquor, a free gift with a purchase at the Wallkill River House, 10 percent off a box of Christmas cards at Heavenly Creations, a free slice when you buy one at Rob's Pizzeria, and much more!

Shop locally and support your community businesses (and remember to thank them for supporting their local library)!

Circ system up and running
Thanks to all for your patience this week as we underwent a circulation and electronic catalog switchover. You can now go back to ordering materials via our electronic catalog, either at home or at the library, and we think you'll love our more user-friendly system! With it you can order items to be delivered at the library of your choice, and you can pay your fines with PayPal from your home computer, if that's easier for you.
Bear with us just a bit longer as our staff familiarizes themselves with the ins and outs of our new circulation system behind the front desk. Your understanding is appreciated!

Website of the week....
For those who are addicted to National Public Radio but find themselves at work during their favorite programs, NPR's website is your solution. The NPR Program Stream found on the website offers a 24-hour schedule of the station's most popular programming as well as coverage of live news events. So you can listen at home at your leisure, sans the traffic and aggravation of a commute!
Thank you, Boy Scouts!
A shout-out goes to Donna Richardson and our local Boy Scouts for their generous donation of the lovely wreath that's hanging on the library's front door. Thank you!
