Spooky reads for autumn

Is the horror genre dead? If so, these new (and soon-to-be-released) novels prove there is life after death, and it's pretty scary....
The Dead Path, by Stephen M. Irwin - Not really a new release anymore, but recent (and creepy) enough to earn an honorable mention. Part It, part Hansel and Gretel, and yet completely original - this one gets an "A" for arachnophobia. A truly chilling read.
The Night Strangers, by Chris Bohjalian - Guilt-ridden pilot Chip Linton and his family flee to New Hampshire in the wake of Chip's decidedly un-Sully Sullenberger-like emergency landing in Lake Champlain. Thirty-nine passengers died in the accident. Now there's a mysterious door in the basement of Chip's new house, sealed with exactly 39 carriage bolts, and some of Chip's passengers (those who didn't survive, at least) are paying him a visit...
The Night Eternal, by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan (due out Oct. 25) - Third in the pair's apocalyptic vampire trilogy. For those who prefer their vampires repulsively terrifying (as opposed to underage and hunky), this series is a must-read.
Harbor, by John Ajvide Lindqvist (due out Oct. 11) - From the author of the acclaimed Let the Right One In, this chiller centers on the mysterious vanishing of a 6-year-old girl. Two years after her disappearance, her distraught father returns to the island where she was lost, only to find that its residents (including his own mother) are being strangely secretive....

Kindle sparks frustration

Kindle users, take heart!
As any Nook worm will tell you, getting used to checking out library eBooks on your device may take a little bit of time. But we can help! And there are other resources you can access when the library's closed, as well.
As always, if you have any questions regarding OverDrive (our digital distributor) or your own eReader, don't hesitate to come in and ask someone behind the circulation desk to help. That's why we're here! If it's midnight on a Sunday, however, and you're desperate for the latest eVanovich, there's plenty of online help available. We would recommend the Kindle help page of the digital media guided tour, which can be found on our library's website.
Good luck!

We geek our website

While you're there, be sure to check out our online business directory. Right now it's a work in progress, but soon you'll be one click away from finding the local business that meets your needs!
