Wallkill Public Library
Thanks for your support!

A huge thanks to all who came out to support the library during Tuesday's vote. The budget passed with a vote of 47 to 2. Because of your backing, we'll be able to continue to offer the quality materials, programming, and events that we hope make the library a valuable community resource.

The library would also like to welcome Merle Bercow, newly elected to serve a three-year term on the library's board of trustees.

Find a banned book and check it out

Libraries throughout the nation received almost 5,000 challenges to their material over the past 10 years, according to the American Library Association.
The books people (typically parents) deem unsuitable for library shelves are challenged for a variety of reasons, ranging from expression of different religious viewpoints to inappropriateness for a specific age group to material considered by some to be "anti-family."
Though this weekend marks the end of Banned Books Week, you can celebrate your freedom to read all year long. Browse through the list of banned or challenged classics found on the ALA's website and pick one up today!

Bookstore needs volunteers

If you love books and enjoy working with the public, the Friends' Used Book Shop could use your help!
Volunteers are needed to staff the store, stock shelves, and help customers. The store is open from noon to 7 p.m. Thursdays, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Even if you can spare an hour or so a month, it would go a long way toward making the store, whose proceeds go toward the library, a success!
If you're interested in helping, please contact Friends of the Wallkill Public Library president Adrienne Gelfand-Perine at 895-8712, or email her at dramapearl@aol.com.
