I have been working on  issues having to do with boundaries. It has been a difficult thing for me to establish boundaries which I feel are appropriate for both myself and others. In learning this very valuable skill I often make errors but the good thing about that is that most of the time I have been able to learn from my mistakes. As a business owner, coach, teacher, wife, mother, friend, grandmother, daughter, sister and volunteer, I have many different roles that I need to set boundaries around and they are often very different for each person in my life and for the situation. So how could I set boundaries which are workable for everyone? This has been a big dilemma for me and one which I will probably be working through for some time to come. In the past  when I set boundaries for myself it was often difficult to maintain the boundaries. I wanted to be loving and caring to everyone in my life and that often meant sacrificing my own needs to assist someone else. This resulted in difficulties with UN-intended consequences because often in wanting to help so many people I would end up letting someone else down. This is not a healthy situation for anyone. It is much easier to establish the boundaries for myself and let others deal with the issues that they might have with regard to their own boundaries. In this regard lessons are constantly being learned by everyone on how to navigate through the tricky waters of life! I am so grateful every day for the opportunity to experience all that I am.

Question: How do I not get "tweaked" when someone makes a comment to me that my ego wants to fight with.

Answer:
Our ego consistently wants to make defensive statements whenever it feels attacked. An ego will only attack another ego. I use the analogy that our body may be covered with wounds from our own ego consistently nattering at us for things our ego thinks we need to improve or change or judges. So when someone makes a comment that our ego has wounded us with many times, it may appear to us that the other person is wounding us again. When in reality, the other person may be attempting to help us to heal the wounds from our own ego's attack. It is sort of like the sting of an antiseptic being placed on a wound, if we have enough wounds all we feel is the pain, and it is difficult to discern the pain of a wound from the pain of the antiseptic which another may be attempting to use to help us to heal one of the wounds they have noticed on us. Our ego wants to tell us that they are attacking us but in reality the ego is the one who has done the attacking and the other person may merely be offering us some antiseptic to begin to heal the wound.

If we first work on stopping the ego from attacking us and begin the healing process it will be amazing the opportunities which come up for us to be given assistance from others in finding wounds which may still be there and that the ego has hidden from us. In practicing present moment awareness, we are given many opportunities by others to heal wounds which we have become so used to feeling that it isn't until someone else puts some antiseptic on the old wound that we feel it. Therefore when you get "tweaked" by someone on a raw wound, thank them for giving you the opportunity to heal!

Inner Peace
RainbowInner Peace, how can one find such a thing in a world which seems to be filled with all kinds of reasons and events which can create DRAMA! Some people seem to thrive on the Drama of their lives and others are disturbed by it. I have the fortune of having a large family and lots of friends and the opportunities to experience drama in life can be numerous at times. I am finding that I can either allow myself to get taken away by the dramas of life or re-frame them to become an opportunity to grow. In my efforts to re-frame some of the drama which occurs around me from time to time, I have been creating a quiet place for me to retreat to. If you are one of the people who also likes a quiet place to retreat to once in a while, I have been creating such a space in my own bathroom. It is such a delicious feeling to have a space where I can go and soak in a bath tub filled with salt water, a space that is beautifully organized. The feeling of the warm water and the soft glow of candles as I allow the stress of the day to soak out of me is a wonderful way I have found to create inner peace for myself. During this alone time, I am able to look at the daily events in a more peaceful environment and that sense of peace allows me to look at stressful events or drama from a perspective which can be lacking in the moment. Taking a deep breath instead of instantly responding can provide the same moment of peace in an intense situation. Tools like taking a deep breath or finding a moment of quiet somewhere inside our own thinking process to be able to slow down for just a moment are so useful in being able to think before we act or re-act. That moment or two of being able to process in a peaceful manner can be the difference between an action of love or an action of fear. Having a quiet place to soak in "inner peace" is such an important part of managing a busy life.

I am finding that as I organize the space around me, my inner peace is enhanced! I have been told a number of times by many friends, that the chaos which I have allowed to surround me in my home is a reflection of chaos within my own thoughts. Spurred by this gift of insight from my friends I have begun the task of organizing a home which has been allowed to become very disorganized over time. It is really coming clear to me now that I have begun the task of getting my home environment organized that with each step along the journey of organizing room by room, I am finding that my thoughts are becoming more organized too and as a result more peaceful! I feel so very blessed to have friends who are such wonderful teachers! I am looking forward to getting my office organized over the next couple of weeks with the help of a dear friend of mine! Once the intention is set on the task I want to accomplish next, it is incredible to me that friends will often assist me in the next step! I am so grateful to have the gift of so many wonderful friends in my life.
