Dear CIPS Members:
In this first fall issue of the News Brief we have a number of new developments to share with you. First, as you can see the News Brief has a new look that matches our recently redesigned website. Members can now easily update their own contact information on the Member Roster ensuring that colleagues throughout the country can locate one another, make referrals, and stay in touch. We encourage everyone to take a moment to visit the site (www.CIPSusa.org), logon using your email address, and make sure your information is up to date. If you have questions about how to do this contact one of the directors from your local Society (indicated below) for assistance.
This issue also features four interesting reports on the highly successful IPA Congress in Mexico City this past summer. Looking forward we also want to draw your attention to the upcoming CIPS Clinical Conference (May 2012) in Los Angeles, and to EBOR (October 2012) in Seattle. As with the IPA Congress, these smaller conferences offer additional venues to connect with colleagues and benefit from the rich diversity of the CIPS community.
Finally, we want to pay our respects and acknowledge the loss of one of our founding members, Ernest S. Lawrence, PhD, FIPA wh

o passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2011. As has been previously noted in a special CIPS mailing we also recognize the loss of another luminary in field of psychoanalysis, Leo Rangell, MD, FIPA who passed away on May 28, 2011. In honor of their contributions to CIPS and to the field of psychoanalysis we are gathering refections from those who knew them well which will be published in our next issue.

IPA Congress in Mexico City
|
We are pleased to provide individual reports from four attendees of the August IPA Congress, "Exploring Core Concepts: Sexuality, Dreams, and the Unconscious."
Raquel Berman, PhD
Raquel Berman reports on the entire conference from the perspective of the Local Arrangements Committee.
Alan Frosch, PhD, FIPA
"It is easy to maintain the fantasy that "our way" is in fact the way most individuals practice psychoanalysis. This fantasy was very pleasantly dispelled in Mexico City at the 47th IPA Congress. The focus of the congress on Sexuality, Dreams, and the Unconscious really honed in on basic psychoanalytic concepts."
Nancy R. Goodman, PhD, FIPA
Nancy Goodman reports on the panel, Enactment: Ubiquitous, Disquieting, and Illuminating which was made up of three members of the CIPS study group on the topic of "enactment." The discussant was Antonino Ferro.
Peter Wolson, PhD, FIPA
"I would like to share with CIPS members that the IPA Congress in Mexico was a spectacular success, with approximately 2000 attending, a greater number than at the previous Chicago Congress."
