Legal Planning for the Caregiver |
You are the caregiver of a loved one with special needs or dementia and need to plan for a time when you are not able to provide that care or if you should predecease them. Attorney Glenn A. Jarrett, principal of Jarrett Law Office, PLC will discuss positive legal solutions that can be put in place when you plan properly.
- What happens if you are not around to make decisions in this person's life?
- What happens to the money? What if the money runs out?
- Who will take care of your loved one?
- Receiving an inheritance may disqualify them for government benefits. Who controls the inheritance?
This important presentation will provide you with helpful answers.

VNA Seminar at 50+ Expo |
Join us this Saturday, January 28, at the Vermont 50+ and Baby Boomers Expo, held from 9 am to 4 pm at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center in Burlington. As a sponsor of this year's event, the VNA is especially excited to share our new resources and support for caregivers. We will be hosting a seminar at 10:15 on advance care planning.

A Conversation Worth Having explores the topics of death and dying and how to get the conversation started with your loved ones. Once taboo subjects, death and dying are becoming increasingly relevant for Baby Boomers and their aging parents. But starting a conversation about end-of-life care options can be difficult. The VNA will offer ideas and types of care options available.
Tickets for the Expo are $5 at the door or $4 in advance. You can call 802 272-9000 for tickets or for more information. |
Spring Hospice Volunteer Training |
Are you interested in providing respite and support for people with terminal illness and their families? You can learn more about hospice and end-of-life care through a training course offered by the VNA.
This 10-week course is usually offered twice a year and features topics including: Introduction to Hospice and Palliative Care, Patient and Family Unit of Care, Communication, and Grief and Bereavement. Each session begins with a presentation on a topic and continues with a facilitated smaller group discussion. For those who decide to volunteer at the VNA, there is a required orientation training on week 11 of the training.
This year, a spring training is offered on Tuesdays from 2-4:30 pm at the VNA, beginning March 13. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required. There is a $25 fee which includes materials and snacks.
For more information about this training and other upcoming Hospice volunteer trainings, you can contact Hospice Volunteer Coordinators Deb Brady or Erica Marks at 860-4411 or visit www.vnacares.org . |
