Powerful Tools for Caregivers |
Caring for a family member or a loved one can be challenging. As a family caregiver, you may experience increased stress and often feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities. Your VNA offers education and support designed to help you become more comfortable in your role as a caregiver.
Classes are led by VNA staff certified as Powerful Tools for Caregivers class leaders. VNA class leaders also bring with them their experience and expertise in caring for persons in the home.
This 6-week program designed to empower family caregivers of older adults to take better care of themselves will be held at VNA Grand Way Adult Day at Grand Way Commons, 412 Farrell St, South Burlington.

Education Workshops |
Legal Planning for the Caregiver
You are the caregiver of a loved one with special needs or dementia and need to plan for a time when you are not able to provide that care or predecease them. Attorney Glenn A. Jarrett, principal of Jarrett Law Office, PLC will discuss positive legal solutions that can be done when you plan properly.
What happens if you are not around to make decisions in this person's life? What happens to the money? What if the money runs out? Who will take care of them? Receiving an inheritance may disqualify them for government benefits. Who controls the inheritance?

The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia & Alzheimer's Disease
If you or someone you know is affected by Alzheimer's disease or dementia, it is time to learn the facts. The VNA presents this education program by the Alzheimer's Association, at VNA Grand Way Adult Day Program on Sunday, January 29. The workshop runs from 1-3 pm and provides information on detection, causes and risk factors, stages of the disease, treatment and more.

VNA Seminar at 50+ Expo |
As a sponsor of this year's Vermont 50+ and Baby Boomers Expo, the VNA is especially excited to share our new resources and support for caregivers. We will also be hosting a seminar at 10:15 on advance care planning.
Join us for A Conversation Worth Having.
Death and dying - once taboo subjects - are becoming increasingly relevant for Baby Boomers and their aging parents. Research finds that Americans are more likely to talk to their children about safe sex and drugs than to talk about end-of-life care options. Often such conversations are avoided out of an understandable desire to spare each other's feelings. They need not be. Learn about the types of care options available and get help with ways to start the conversation with your loved ones. You will be glad you did.
The Vermont 50+ and Baby Boomers Expo will be held Saturday, January 28, from 9am to 4pm at the Sheraton Hotel & Conference Center in Burlington. Tickets are $5 at the door, $4 in advance. For tickets, call 802-872-9000. |

Memorial Tree Lighting and Remembrance Ceremony |
On Sunday, January 8, around 150 people gathered together at the Williston Federated Church in Williston, VT, to honor and remember loved ones who have died.
The service featured stirring reflections from VNA Hospice Medical Director Allan Ramsay, MD, and by a family member of a former Respite House resident. Music was supplied by Scott McAllister and by the Noyana Singers, VNA's volunteer Hospice singing group. |
