Big Announcements at the Annual Meeting

Jon Kuypers and Church Hindes

Church Hindes presents YMCA Camp Abnaki director Jon Kuypers with the J. Churchill Hindes

Community Service Award.

On Nov. 3, the VNA held its Annual Staff and Volunteer Recognition Dinner and 105th Report to the Community in South Burlington. During the dinner, VNA President and CEO Church Hindes announced he is stepping down from his leadership of the VNA, a post he has held for over 12 years. He plans to leave in summer 2012.

"At the VNA, my role has been more the conductor of a talented orchestra than a traditional CEO. Directing the VNA for twelve years has been beyond my dreams. My plans are to seek out one more opportunity before I hang up my baton - to apply what the VNA has taught me and to make a difference - in a different way," said Church.

Also during the dinner, VNA staff and volunteers received the 2011 Richard H. Wadhams Award. This highest honor at the VNA is given in recognition of individuals who provide outstanding support to VNA programs.

The newly renamed J. Churchill Hindes Community Service Award was presented to YMCA Camp Abnaki director Jon Kuypers and his staff for their support of Camp Knock Knock, VNA's annual family bereavement camp held yearly  at Camp Abnaki.

Recognitions were also given to Andrea Kenney and Holly Miller for their respective 30 and 25 years as VNA Hospice Volunteers. Denise McClaughlin, RN, was honored for 25 years of service to the VNA and Pat Wright, RN was celebrated as the VNA's longest-tenured staffer in history with 45 years of service.

Annual Fund Allis Photo
Clifford and Terry enjoy time at home with one of her paintings.
Clifford and Theresa Allis have lived in their home for 55 years. After Theresa was hospitalized this spring, Clifford and their son, Bruce, knew they wanted her to return home. "The VNA got right on it to get us the help we needed," Clifford reports. "Terry's attitude wasn't too great, but the VNA nurse really helped turn that around."

The Allis' story is just one of many stories this year about how the VNA has helped people through transitions in their lives. Your support of the VNA can help the Allis family and others continue to receive exceptional care. Please consider a tax deductible year-end gift to the VNA Annual Fund. Thank you!

VNA Recognizes Super Seniors

with WCAX

Seniors today are redefining what it means to grow old. Many are working well past traditional retirement or volunteering in roles to follow their passion or realize a lifelong dream.

Helping people live life well, remain independent, and stay connected to their community is what VNA has been doing for more than 100 years. The VNA and WCAX are now partnering on a series called Super Seniors that recognizes these Vermont seniors and tells their stories.

The series airs on Friday mornings at 6:25 am during the morning news on WCAX. You can find past segments on www.wcax.com. We invite you to watch and think of seniors in your life who deserve to have their story told. These individuals are an inspiration, not only for seniors, but for all of us.
If you would like to stop receiving emails from us, click the Unsubscribe button at the bottom of the email and you will be removed from our list.

Any suggestions for stories can be sent to info@vnacares.org.

Sincerely,
