Educational Series Adds Support
for Dementia Care |
| VNA Dementia Care Adult Day Program | Last year, the VNA created an adult day program dedicated entirely to serving persons diagnosed with dementia. The response has been excellent with the program currently serving between 15 and 18 persons daily. Yet we know that caregivers and family members continue to struggle with this disease.
Living with or caring for persons with memory loss can be especially difficult. It can affect you physically, emotionally, and financially. VNA's dementia care adult day program and our dementia support group help ease caregiver's stress while providing specialized care and therapeutically designed activities for persons living with dementia.
To expand on these services, we are beginning a free, community educational series focused on helping caregivers and families understand and cope with dementia. Planned presentation topics include:
- Finding community resources and services
- Handling stress during the holidays
- Planning for long term care needs
The series begins on Wednesday, November 2 at 5:30 pm at the Grand Way Commons Adult Day location, 412 Farrell Street, South Burlington. Staff from the Alzheimer's Association will present information on support and services available in our area. To register, call Ellen Gagner, VNA Dementia Case Manager, at 802- 862-6610 or e-mail gagner@vnacares.org.
We also offer a monthly support group specifically for persons with dementia and their caregivers. The group meets the second Wednesday of each month from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at the Grand Way Commons Adult Day site. A light supper is served. The group is free and no pre-registration is required. You may join at anytime. |
