Way to Go

The Shift Shufflers was the top stepping team for Way to Go! 2010

Participants in this year's Way to Go! virtual online fundraising event have been hard at work taking steps and increasing their activity to raise money for the VNA. To date, the number of steps taken is just under 3 million!

Ellen Gagner Presents to First Responders

Ellen Gagner
Ellen Gagner, VNA Adult Day Program Case Manager

Ellen Gagner, VNA Grand Way Adult Day Program Case Manager, has nearly "seen it all" in her more than 20 years of working with people with dementia. That makes her a perfect fit for her new job at the dementia care-focused program at the Adult Day site in South Burlington. She puts her knowledge to use supporting the participants who arrive each day ready to socialize and take part in specially designed activities and meals at the recently renovated site.

Ellen is ready to share her knowledge with the community, too. She is available for presentations to local First Responder groups such as fire, police and emergency medical personnel on how best to handle emergency situations involving people with cognitive impairment diseases such as Alzheimer's.

Her first presentation, made to the Colchester Rescue squad in May, was well-received with over 25 squad members in attendance. Using a question and answer format, Ellen shared tips on effective communication techniques such as the importance of designating one person to do the communicating, offering encouragement and maintaining a calm and confident demeanor. The rescue folks shared stories of past experiences and agreed that the presentation would help them with future interactions in the community.

Ellen will make a presentation to the Shelburne Police Department at the end of June. If you are interested in a presentation from  Ellen, please contact her directly at 862-6610.
