Thank You

I would like to take this opportunity to say "Thank You" to our outgoing Vestry members:  Rich Carey, Chris Ray, Steve Rogers and our Senior Warden, Vince Heuring.  These Vestry members have worked very hard to make our church something we can all be proud of, and have represented you all well.  I hope you will take the time to thank

them all personally.

Pancake Supper 2012
Why Lent and Ash Wednesday Services

Many Christians attend special services of public worship on the first day of Lent called "Ash Wednesday." The name is the result of a tradition in which the priest burns the palm leaves which have remained from the previous year's Palm Sunday and, after blessing the ashes, uses them to mark a cross on the foreheads of the worshipers with these words: "Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return"(Genesis 3:19).

From biblical times the act of sprinkling oneself with ashes has been a sign of repentance for sin. When Job, for instance, came to appreciate the holiness of God and his own state of sinfulness, he said: "I had heard of thee by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees thee; therefore, I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes" (Job 42:5-6). The first day of Lent is the time when Christians demonstrate their humility before the throne of God with the mark of ashes.

Please join us on Ash Wednesday, February 22nd, for the service of Holy Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes at 7 am, 10 am or 7 pm to remind ourselves of this great truth.

Once again this year we will experience a quiet Lent. Our Sunday services will include silence, candles, special music and other stations to help guide your spiritual journey during Lent. Take time to enjoy the moment and the spirit among us as we worship. I hope it will once be a meaningful Lent that opens the senses and quiets the mind.

Dear St. Stephen's Episcopal Church & Deacon Jan Dewlen,

We are most grateful for your support which is helping the churches in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

A 40' container of food which will provide 100,000 meals of oatmeal & 150,000 servings of soup has been shipped to the many suffering from the drought & famine areas in Kenya.  Please pray for the children as in times of drought they suffer the most.  Children under 5 are particularly susceptible to killer diseases such as measles and malaria.

The proceeds make possible education for orphaned children in Kenya and Uganda.  With thousands of orphaned children who barely exist with the
societal structure, education is the only hope for them to impact their culture and secure a more promising future. A nutritious lunch is also provided for the orphans.

Thank you for your support of $1,016.00 which has made this outreach possible.  If you would like more information on any of these projects, please let us know.

Faithfully yours,
Keith Jesson
