Thank  you to everyone who made Christmas services so spectacular. Thanks to the readers and greeters, the acolytes, chalice bearers and especially the choir and Brenda diZerega. Thanks to all the moms and dads who helped with the Christmas pageant and the kids who sang so beautifully. And a special thanks to the Altar Guild for their care of all the services, especially Tom & Robin Trader and Deacons Dana & Jan for all they did. It takes so many to have these wonderful services each year and I'm always amazed by the outpouring of love for this church & God by its members. Thank you all so much and may you all have a Happy New Year.

welcome
                Welcome to The Witness 2012

Welcome to the first edition of The Witness in 2012!  My name is Mary Ann Ryan, and I have recently volunteered to manage the monthly creation of The Witness newsletter.

It is indeed an honor and a privilege to serve in this capacity, and it is a bit daunting to try to live up to the standard that Jerry Dewlen has set for The Witness over the last quarter century.  I am awed and inspired by his dedication, creativity and just plain ol' hard work that it took to create a product as informative and dependable as The Witness.  Jerry has agreed to continue to serve as my mentor and guide in this role.

When I first volunteered for the Newsletter, it was because I was looking to be of service to St. Stephen's, since I have been worshiping here for about 2 years now.  I thought this particular job would be a good fit for my skills, and envisioned it as a job of manipulating email distribution lists, cutting-and-pasting articles, and other mechanical procedures.  While indeed this has proven true, it is slowly dawning on me that this will challenge me to grow my knowledge of the workings of St. Stephen's, deepen my understanding of the Bible and its teachings, and get to know you, my neighbors and fellow children of God.

Another example of how God works in mysterious ways.

I have been thinking about how I can possibly add value to what Jerry has done with The Witness.  I have some ideas, but I would love to hear from you.  Please send your contributions via email (witness@ststephenslongmont.org) by the new deadline, which is now 2nd-to-last Thursday of the month.  I attend the 8:00am service most Sundays, or you can reach me by cell phone  (303-517-4284).

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the 2012 pledge campaign!  Without you, there wouldn't be a lovely church to worship in, or our wonderful ministry staff, or an effective outreach program.

For a complete list of those who contributed this year, click here.  If you were unable to contribute during the pledge campaign but would like to do so now, pick up a pledge card in the Narthex or call the Church office.

Announcement of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Annual Meeting

Everyone is invited to the annual meeting on January 29th following the 10:00am service (11:30). We will eat, vote for new Vestry members, follow up on Reverend Lou's sermon asking us to question our unique character, celebrate and honor members of the congregation and be done by 1:30. It's a pot luck so make sure to bring a dish to share and let me know if you can help set up and clean up.  There are no football games - well, unless you count the Pro Bowl - so no excuses to miss.

Ministry & Committee Leaders, please submit your reports by January 10 to info@ststephenslongmont.org.  Details can be found by clicking here.

The Meaning of Epiphany
It is a question from time immemorial: "How can God be known?" The Christian celebration of Epiphany points to the answer.

January 6th is Epiphany this year, the day after the twelve-day celebration of Christmas. The English word "Epiphany" comes from the Greek word epiphaneia, which means "appearing" or "revealing." Epiphany focuses on God's self-revelation in Christ. On this day, the feast celebrates the epiphany (manifestation) of Christ to the Gentiles, symbolized by Christ's manifestation to the Magi (Wise Men.)

The emphasis is upon God making himself known to the world through Jesus, the divine Son.
