Music Account Created

Music 2In August the vestry approved and established a special account intended to support  music, music programs, supplies, and instrument repairs etc. Distributions from the account will be at the discretion of Brenda diZerega.   The account has been initially funded by an anonymous church member in recognition of the excellent music program at St. Stephens led by Brenda.   Additional donations can be accepted at any time through the collection plate on Sundays by marking your check with " Music".   The goal is to allow the director to expand the musical offerings which so greatly enriches our worship experience.

O.U.R. Center Warming Center

Today's chilly weather reminds us that the cold and snow are on the way.  Each year the OUR Center opens the Warming Center to offer adults with no place to stay a dry, safe refuge from the bitter weather.  Our Warming Center relies heavily on the willingness of individuals and groups to volunteer to help during the overnight shifts.  Volunteers serve meals, play board games, chat and support the staff during the Warming Center  over night program.

We ask that you share this information with your congregation and ask them to consider volunteering with the OUR Center program this year.

This opportunity is also ideal for adult OUR Centercouples or adult family members who would like to volunteer together.  We need both men and women to support the Warming Center staff.  Volunteers will sign up to be on call for certain dates, or days of the week and for certain shifts.  The Warming Center is open during snowy and freezing nights.

The shifts available are 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. or 1 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Volunteers can sign up to be on call as many nights as they wish throughout the season which runs from Oct 1 to April 30.

This is a great volunteer opportunity for individuals who really wish to make an impact on the lives of people who are homeless in the Longmont area.

Please ask interested volunteers to contact me.  We also ask that volunteers attend one Orientation meeting.   The next orientations are scheduled for 9/21, 10/5, 10/19 from 2- 3pm at the Warming Center, 303 Atwood St.

Thank you for helping us share information about our Warming Center volunteer request.  Please contact Rachael Navarro at the OUR Center for more specific information about the Warming Center program.

Thank You Grounds Keepers!

The grounds around the church are looking wonderful!  Many thanks go to:  Rich and Linda Carey, grounds keeperHerm Ball, Tim Rudden, Maggie Benton, Barb Smith, Lynne Lemmer, Merla Page, Chuck Cooprider, Chuck and Shirley O'Brien, Megan and Chris Marks, Rebecca Cooper and Ken Cline, Jody Benson, Ed Gray, and the Turner and DiZerega families.

We still have a little time to go, with the warm temperatures the next couple of weeks, and some pruning and clean up after the first hard frost, before we can put away the gloves and tools for the winter.  All your work certainly has been worth it, and it is great to see everything looking so neat and well cared for.  I hope that each of you will continue with your excellent stewardship next year as well.  Your work is a wonderful reflection of the mission of our church.

Also, a special thanks goes Steve Worland for helping Bob and I prepare some new graves in the columbarium.  Because it is extremely difficult to prepare them after the ground freezes, we keep a small inventory of graves that can be opened for use when necessary through the winter.

Again, everyone's help and interest is much appreciated.  Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

Gratefully, Nancy and Bob McWhorter

Thank You from H.O.P.E.

HOPE Logo

Thank you!!!  St. Stephen's collected 146 pairs of shoes for Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement (H.O.P.E.) during the months of July, August, and September 2011.  Thanks for cleaning out your closets and helping the homeless souls with soles.

The Outreach van goes seven nights a week during the winter and six nights a week during the summer. Two Street Outreach volunteers staff the van every night between 5:30-10:00 p.m. During Street Outreach shifts, we provide basic needs support such as food prepared by our soup angels, water, clothing, and blankets or sleeping bags. We also provide transports to available shelter, detox facilities, and medical treatment facilities.

Blessing of the Animals

Join all the animals Sunday October 2nd at 10:00 on the west lawn for the St. Francis blessing of the animals.  Please bring your pet(s) on a lease or in a cage and we will celebrate the gift of all creatures great and small by singing special songs and asking God's blessing on each. Treats will be available for all.
Youth Sunday

Final Youth Sunday

Join us on October 30th 10:00 am for Youth Sunday at St. Stephen's. We want youth involved in all aspects of the service so please let us know if you can help.  Also, since it's so close to Halloween we would like the little ones to wear their costumes. Who knows ........ there may be some tricks and some treats! See you then.

 Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through Operation Christmas Child Logogift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love. Since 1993, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been packed, shipped, and delivered across the globe. People of all ages can be involved in this simple, hands-on mission project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas-Jesus Christ.

St Cecilia's Guild is going to sponsor the program again this year and we need YOUR help. We need to start collecting items to put in the shoeboxes. We hope everyone will participate in this ministry. Collection boxes will be in the Narthex. More information to follow.

There are several ways YOU can help with this ministry:

1)         Bring items to church to be used to fill the boxes, fill the boxes and get them ready to take to Denver

for shipping overseas. (Dollar stores are a good place to go, and school supply sales going on now.)

                        OR

2)         Donate money to buy supplies and help with the shipping costs ($7.00) per box.

Here is a partial list of things to start looking for:

Small shirts, socks, ball caps, etc.

            Toiletries - travel-size is ideal

            Toothbrushes, toothpaste, comb, brush, etc.

            Pencils, notebooks, crayons, markers etc.

            Candy and gum

            Small Toys and Card Games

Dear Friends,

April has been another fun filled month here at the school!  We are planning another trip at the end of April to the Regent and the children will be giving out May Baskets this time. Miss Jennifer and Miss Janet have been busy building the baskets and the children from both classes have been so busy decorating them. They are so very excited to go and sing and make others happy that it is so hard to contain their excitement.

We also have had a very busy month with Butterflies and Ladybugs! The children have been watching them grow and soon we will let them free!

Also, we had a MOST WONDERFUL visit from 4 little chicks that came to see us! Mr. Zander, one of our soon to be Graduates brought them in with his Mom's help (Miss Carolyn) and we had so much fun! The children learned how to hold them gently, and how to care for them, and where they will soon be staying.  We also learned about Easter and all that Jesus has done for us.  Our wonderful Moms and Dads came for an Easter egg hunt before Easter to try and find a very special egg that their own child had decorated just for them. Fun was had by all! Of course, the Easter egg hunt for the children was the BEST!

We are looking forward to our MOTHER'S DAY PROGRAM to Honor our Wonderful children's Mother's on Thursday May 5th at 10:30am in Boone Hall. Our children will be practicing their songs to sing for Moms and they will have a special Surprise for them! Friday May 6th from 9am to 12 noon we are having a SPECIAL FREE DAY for the children that go to our school! We hope that the Moms and Dads take advantage of the morning and do something nice for themselves!

We are now accepting applications for the Fall 2011-2012 School Year. Our Pre-K class is getting full, please do NOT wait to sign up! We do have OPENINGS in the THREE YEAR OLD PRESCHOOL CLASS. We will be offering our ENRICHMENT program after the morning sessions. Please call for information on this program 303-776-1072 ex. 5. If you are interested or know of someone that might be interested in information please tell them about our FANTASTIC SCHOOL!   Please remember, although the public schools have been offering preschool and pre-k classes we are Christian based and offer the BEST TEACHERS in the WORLD, our CLASS SIZE IS JUST PERFECT FOR LITTLE ONES TO EXPLORE AND FELL LOVED AND SPECIAL AND LEARN! Remember, your child will have only one introduction to school! Make it the RIGHT ONE! Call for a tour and information

303-772-1076 ex. 5.

We want to congratulate the children moving on to Kindergarten next year!  Caora, Carlie, Ethan, Farrah, Gentry, Jordan, Lauren, Mary Kate, Trevor and Zander. We will miss you all!

Also a VERY HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to the entire Mother's out there who take the time to Love, Hug, and Guide and cherish their gift/gifts from God!

God Bless you All, Be Safe and have a Wonderful summer!

Thoughts From Jodi Benson

I have a close friend who was ripped away from church, friends, and community when her husband lost his job.  They had taken comfort that at least her mom and the rest of their extended families would be there for support when they moved.  Then her mom died right before they moved.  I wrote this inspired by Psalm 20 for her, but I hope anyone who mourns can take comfort.

Psalm 20 9/10/11 inspired by a friend's still mourning her mom

May the Lord receive you in the time of your passing *
May the Name of Jesus Christ defend you from all harm.

May he send you help from Heaven *
and strengthen you for the journey.

God will remember the offering of your life *
and honor your gifts and your sacrifices in his name.Thoughtful

He will open the door to Paradise *
and smooth the path through Peter's gate.

We will rejoice in your salvation *
may God shower you with the gifts promised by His Son.

As I know that the Redeemer lives, *
I know He will answer my cry from his dwelling in Heaven
and His strength will make your path sure.

Some say there is nothing after death, no reason to hope or to mourn; *
But we have cause for hope; our faith is our comfort and confidence.

Those who do not believe have no knowledge but that death is certain *
we rise in hope, our grief is tempered by faith.

We grieve and mourn for the passing of a beloved friend *
answer, therefore, our cry for your presence, your healing, your mercy, and your comfort.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit *
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.

Jodi
