Welcome to the online version of the Witness newsletter. We hope you enjoy this electronic edition. This edition is a duplicate of the printed version that you should have already received, and I realize that the dates for some of the events have already passed. Alas, that is the result of trying to design something new, and will get better with future editions.
Also, I have found that this version will look slightly different depending on which email program you are using. For example, some things don't line up quite like I want them to, and some of the images are not scaled the same. Let me know of any problems, and send a screen capture if you can. I don't promise that I can fix every little detail, but I will do what I can.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper 2011 Thanks!
Thanks to the congregation for your amazing attendance at this year's Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. We had about 100 attendees this year, many more than we've had in recent memory. Every table was filled, and we netted over $300 at the event. Maybe it was the bacon!
And a special thanks to the volunteer cooks and cleanup folks, who did such an amazing job:
Craig Benson, Rich Carey, Kory Cash, Ken Cline, Doug Cummings, Jerry Dewlen, Mike Jones, George LeFever, Fr. Max, Mike Pipis, Kirk Ray, Steve Rogers, and Eric Schaetzel. Great job, guys!

Help for Longmont's Homeless Through the Summer

Summer months will be upon us very soon. The homeless population faces problems of mosquitoes and scorching sun burning their skin as they keep on the move from place to place. They will still be hungry, and want to stay clean if they can. When someone walks all day to get to different locations, socks wear out very fast and need replaced.
The H.O.P.E. (Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement) Outreach van goes out every night of the month to serve the homeless who need it most. The volunteers know people by name and distribute various supplies along with a meal, to keep people alive.
St. Stephen's wants to help H.O.P.E. with the outreach program. We will gather the following supplies, during the month of April, to fill gallon zip-lock bags. On May 15th, between services and during Sunday School you are invited to come to Boone Hall and help fill the bags.
· Men's Socks
· Travel shampoo, conditioner, lotion, deodorant
· Hand wipes
· Off mosquito wipes
· Sunscreen
· Toothbrush (We have toothpaste)
· canned meal (soup, stew) with pop-top lid
· small box raisins
· granola bar
· canned meat with pop-top lid
· plastic spoon, fork
· gallon size zip-lock bags.
There will be a large tub or two in the Narthex for the supplies. Please be generous this Lent. Be the salt or light to someone and make a difference in our city. A personal note: I have been an Outreach volunteer with H.O.P.E for almost a year, and have seen God's hand at work. Ann Jennings and I are a team and go out once a month.. Ann described our task very well when she said, "Our goal is to keep people alive long enough for God to intervene." Deacon Jan Dewlen

Japanese Earthquake Response Fund
Episcopal Relief & Development has established a Japan Earthquake Response Fund that you can donate to on their website: https://www.er-d.org/donate-select.php The 9.0-magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami that struck Japan Mar.11 was the strongest to hit the country since officials started keeping records over 100 years ago. Adding to the crisis is an ongoing situation at regional nuclear plants, prompting the evacuation of tens of thousands of people. Episcopal Relief & Development is supporting the response efforts of Nippon Sei Ko Kei (NSKK, the Anglican Communion in Japan) following the catastrophe. An initial contribution has already been sent to the Provincial Office to support work in the Dioceses of Tohoku and Kita Kanto. NSKK is organizing teams with relief supplies, and will also launch a longer-term response to assist those who have lost so much in re-establishing their lives. E-R&D will continue to support the Church in its longer-term recovery plans. Your prayers and support will help in providing for the country's recovery and rebuilding efforts in the days to come. This prayer is by the Rev. Timothy Nakayama, Diocese of Olympia and formerly a priest with NKSS in the Dioceses of Tohoku and Okinawa: O God, the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, O God, the Son, our Friend and Brother, and O God the Holy Spirit, who Leads us Into All Truth: Pour into our hearts the abundance of your mercy so that We, Your People, gathered together during this holy season of Lent in the Year of Our Lord, 2011, may give from our abundance, to help People in the face of so much destruction, suffering, injury, and death, during the Great Earthquake in Northeast Japan: followed by fires, tsunamis and the threat of nuclear fallout. We ask this, in the Name of the One who gave His Life that we might live forever: Our Savior, Friend and Brother-Christ Jesus, Our Lord. AMEN. |
