Weekly Wages Show Strong Growth |
Dear Friend,
We have a number of economic news items in today's message, including wage growth, employment, unemployment and labor force growth.
But first, please take a look at our new water quality maps showing how our region's streams and waterways are doing in a number of categories.
Also, please check out Part VII of PittsburghTODAY's Venture City series, "The Future." The first six parts of the series are also available on PittsburghTODAY.org.
Average weekly wages for the Pittsburgh region grew 7.6 percent in the first quarter of 2012 compared to the same quarter last year, which was second only to Cincinnati.
Within the region, Washington County saw the highest growth rate at 14.8 percent year-over-year. Washington County made the top 10 list of large counties for percentage increase in employment, absolute increase in average weekly wages, and percentage increase in average weekly wages in the first quarter.
The unemployment rate for the Pittsburgh region in August was the same as the rate in August 2011, 7.3 percent. The total number of employed and unemployed both grew year-over-year, and the total labor force reached a new all-time high of 1,255,751.
