Housing, Transportation and Exports

Dear Friend,

Between 2009 and 2010, the Pittsburgh region and the majority of benchmark regions experienced a slight decrease in mass transit usage. In Pittsburgh, mass transit usage dropped from 39 annual passenger trips per capita in 2009 to 38 annual passenger trips per capita in 2010.

The median age of the Pittsburgh region's housing stock in 2010 was 55 years, making it the oldest housing stock of any region.

The 2010 U.S. Department of Commerce data shows an almost 46 percent increase in exports from the Pittsburgh region compared to total exports from the region in 2009. Coal, steel and chemicals are the Pittsburgh region's three principal export products.
