Dear Friend,
Total nonfarm jobs for April 2012 in the Pittsburgh region was 1,157,100. Over the four-year period from April 2008 to April 2012, the Pittsburgh region gained 6,900 nonfarm jobs. These figures show that the region is recovering from the recession and performing comparatively stronger than all of our benchmark regions. Pittsburgh is the only region with job growth over the four-year period. All of our benchmark regions lost jobs over the same period.
This growth has been fueled by the following sectors: Financial Activities (up 5.0 percent), Professional and Business Services (up 4.1 percent), Education and Health Services (up 8.1 percent), and Leisure and Hospitality (up almost 4 percent).
Sincerely,
Douglas Heuck
