More job strength for Pittsburgh

The total number of nonfarm jobs in the Pittsburgh region in January 2012 was 1,134,000, the second-highest January figure ever. The year-over-year job growth rate was 1.6 percent, and the two-year job growth rate was 3.98 percent. The region gained a total of 43,400 jobs between Januray 2010 and January 2012. 

 

Natural resources, mining and construction jobs increased 12.82 percent between January 2010 and January 2012.

Natural Resources, Mining and Construction Jobs in the Pittsburgh region increased almost 13 percent between January 2010 and January 2012.

 

In addition, the annual job number for the Pittsburgh region for 2011 was 1,148,600, second only to 2008 when the total number of nonfarm jobs was 1,148,900. The Pittsburgh region has been performing better than the benchmark average in terms of job growth for the past four years. The total number of jobs in the Pittsburgh region has returned to pre-recession levels.
