Job numbers increase again in May

Total nonfarm job numbers in the Pittsburgh region were up again last month, increasing by 9,200 from May 2010. These numbers are stronger than all benchmark regions except Milwaukee and Boston.

Between May 2010 and May 2011, Pittsburgh's nonfarm job numbers increased by 0.81 percent.

In addition to strong job numbers in May, coal barge traffic jumped by nearly 61 percent from 3,448 total barges traveling through the Port of Pittsburgh last May to 5,538 last month.
