Passports Need Protection, Too! |
|
All US Passport booklets issued since October 2006 have RFID chips in their back cover that include information on the passport owner. That information includes everything that is seen on the first page of the passport, including:
- Passport Photo
- Name
- Place of birth
- Date of birth
- Country of origin
- Passport number
Hackers with the right skills and equipment may be able to scan some or all of that information. U.S. Passports contain shielding material in the front cover to try and stop this but we have found that the covers do not stay closed well enough to prevent reading of the data on the embedded chip.
Protect yourself now with Identity Stronghold Secure Sleeves for Passports or Secure Leather for Passports.
