The April "edition" of "Corpus Christi First" .....

  

Schedule for the weekend is :

Friday Apr 6th from 5:30 to 9:30pm - ArtWalk 

Saturday Apr 7th from 9am to 4pm - Marina Market Days 

Sunday Apr 8th - Bridgewalk  is CANCELLED

  

Continuing in April:  

The program of Public Art Tours similar to those conducted during Festival of the Arts. will run again. Please call 361-883-ARTS  for more info and to book a seat on one of the two morning tram tours any ArtWalk morning

  

Update: 

During ArtWalk evening be sure to hop on the RTA "ArtWalk Express" (RTA Route #79 which will run as a free service between 5:30 & 9:00pm) and visit the museums in S.E.A. Town which offer free entry to ArtWalkers on ArtWalk night. The Festival of the Arts office at 1521 N Chaparral. The Art Museum, the Asian Cultures Museum, and the Science & History Museum are all open free to ArtWalkers. 

  

News:

Saturday, at Marina Market Days, will see the launch of "MusicWalk". This new event will quietly step onto the stage this month with a performance by "I51" from noon until 4pm at Market Days followed by music throughout Downtown all Saturday evening. Urban Fare Cafe and Seawall Food and Spirits commence their summer season programs with, respectively, an "open mic night" and performance by "Profile"

  

Parking:
As ArtWalk grows more successful so the process of parking Downtown becomes more of an issue. Laz Parking have agreed to offer a $2 rate on ArtWalk night (also $2 all day Saturday during Marina Market Days) at their 400 block Water Street site next to AKA Sushi.

La Retama Park
La Retama

La Retama Park is the focal point of ArtWalk. This is where you can obtain free information and maps. It is also where the tram and RTA Express connect and where the prize draw takes place.

  • Food vendor Callie's Cajun will be back in the park after a successful debut last month.
  • Music in the park will be provided by "Get Off the Lawn" from 5:30 until 7:30pm followed by TAMUCC Improv group from 7:30 til 8:30pm
  • Free kids art activities by K Space Contempoary and Corpus Christi Books.
  • There will be a selection of arts and crafts (not resale) vendors open from 5:30pm until 9pm including a food vendor and Uncertain Farms (from Marina Market Days) will be in the park with a selection of jams, fruit & vegetables for sale.
  • Maps and flyers are available from the Information booth, ArtWalk volunteers (wearing orange T-shirts), ArtWalk Ambassadors wearing orange polo shirts,  Parking Control Officers on their electric carts, and on the RTA ArtWalk Express. The DTown Tram will also have a supply of maps  and of course, HOBO will be there providing their usual brand of Honkadelic entertainment.  
  • The Prize Draw will take place at 8:45pm and prizes can be viewed by clicking HERE

S.E.A.Town Enclave
Art Museum
The RTA "ArtWalk Express" Route#79 will visit all these locations between 5:30 and 9:00pm so hop on the free transport and check out these amazing locations all of which are offering FREE entry to ArtWalkers.
  • The Art Museum of South Texas

    Beginning in April, admission to the Art Museum of South Texas is free to the public from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on the first Friday of each month (replacing the former first Thursday free days).  The Art Museum is open for ArtWalk at no charge to the public from 5:30 - 9 p.m. on the first Friday.

     On April 6, in partnership with the Corpus Christi Film Society, The Killer will be shown at 7 p.m. in the AMST Auditorium. This film drama, of Chinese origin, involves a paid assassin, a beautiful singer, and a determined police detective. There is no charge for admission.  Chinese cuisine will be featured in Hester's Café, along with the regular menu and full bar service. Also featuring music by Barbara & David Brown

     On view at the Art Museum on April 6 are the traveling exhibitions "Michael Scott:  Buffalo Bulb's Wild West Show" and "Golden Legacy: Original Art from 65 Years of Golden Books."  Also on view is "Heavy Hitters: A Survey of Contemporary American Printmaking," which is part of the Oso Bay Biennial, organized by the Department of Art, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

    24 Hours: A Look in the Day in the Life of a CCPD's Forensic Division Investigator

    Join us in welcoming Haydee Garcia, Crime Science Investigator for the Corpus Christi Police Department Forensic Division. Investigator Garcia, will present information on a typical day in the life of a CSI team member. Come listen and learn as she sheds light on the real processes of true heroes in the war against crime in our city. From 6 til 7pm

We are always looking for volunteers to help out on ArtWalk nights. Tasks include helping to set up / take down tents in the park, handing out maps / flyers throughout Downtown or on the tram / RTA Express, supervising the kids art area in the park, and many other small but helpful chores.
