Greetings!
The Fourth of July weekend produced a "bumper edition" of "Corpus Christi First" with an estimated 2700 people attending ArtWalk on the Friday evening, 5000 at Marina Market Days on Saturday, and 200 brave souls together with 2 kids in strollers and four dogs turned out to walk the Harbor Bridge on Sunday morning. August is not a holiday weekend so maybe we will not have quite that many folks attending ArtWalk but if you all ask your friends and relatives to join in the fun Downtown on Friday August 5th - who knows? Schedule for the weekend is : Friday 5th from 5:30 to 9pm - ArtWalk Saturday 6th from 9am to 4pm - Marina Market Days Sunday 7th at 9:00am - Bridgewalk without a bridge New for August ArtWalk: We will be rolling out a pilot program of Public Art Tours similar to those conducted during Festival of the Arts. Initially, for the months of August, September, and October, there will be 2 tours of Public Art located in the Downtown / S.E.A. Town area each ArtWalk morning. The 9:30am tour will be offered to schools and then at 11am there will be another tour open to the public. Both tours will be docent led and free of charge. During ArtWalk evening be sure to hop on the RTA "ArtWalk Express" and visit The Art Museum of Texas, The Science and History Museum, and the Museum of Asian Cultures all of which offer free entry to ArtWalkers on ArtWalk night. On this day in history in 1861 President Lincoln imposed the first federal income tax, in 1962 Marilyn Monroe was found dead, and in 1986 it was revealed that artist Andrew Wyeth had secretly created 240 drawings and paintings of his neighbor created over a 15-year period. So there are a further three facts for your edification, one unfortunate, one sad, and the third perhaps a tad creepy seeing as how Mrs Wyeth and the husband of the model apparently did not know about the sessions! I leave you with yet another Chic Murray joke and the knowledge that you just have to put up with my sense of humor, alternatively you could just not read the next line.
