Greetings!
July is the first ArtWalk we are hosting under the banner of "Corpus Christi First"
the new collaborative marketing effort by the CCDMD, CCCVB, Marina, and City to encourage people to visit Corpus Christi during the first weekend of any month to enjoy all that we have to offer in our Sparking City by the Sea.
Check out the website (link above) for details of events happening on the first Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of each month and come on Downtown to support the efforts of your local businesses.
Please also make time to visit and support our vendors in the park and at various other locations Downtown all of whom are selling items of their own creation. Even if these items are not to your taste they are art, they are the artists own work and they are deserving of your polite perusal if not purchase.
The big news this month is that EVERY business on William Street will be participating in ArtWalk on July 1st. The WaterStreet Restaurants group, Dos Comales, Business Interiors, Threads, Urban Fare Cafe, Tease Salon, and La Bahia will all have something to offer ArtWalkers. The Mayor will be in attendance at 6pm to perform a joint ribbon cutting at the grand opening of Threads and Urban Fare Cafe and there will be various bands performing throughout the evening - see individual business entries for details. Be sure to hop on the RTA "ArtWalk Express" and visit The Art Museum of Texas, The Science and History Museum, and the Museum of Asian Cultures all of which offer free entry to ArtWalkers on ArtWalk night. On this day in history in 1862 Congress established the Bureau of Internal Revenue, in 1963 the US Postmaster introduced 5 digit ZIP Codes, and in 1997 Hong Kong reverted to the Chinese. However let us not be despondent about (2 out of 3 of) these facts, rather rejoice that we can now say in 2011 Corpus Christi added "First" to its' "marketing" name and ArtWalk is a big part of that campaign! As I'm not from around here it's possible that you won't find this as amusing as I do. Nevertheless I'm going to leave you with a Chic Murray (Scottish Comedian) joke which I think, as Texas ArtWalkers, you ought to appreciate so here goes: " I drew a gun, he drew a gun, very soon we were surrounded by pretty pictures of guns" Maybe you need to hear it to appreciate it - oh well, see you in the park and, hopefully, at some of the other fun things going on during the 4th of July weekend. Check out www.corpuschristifirst.com for details. |
