  Corpus Christi Downtown Management District
First Friday ArtWalk Newsletter
June 3rd
06/2011
Greetings!

The May ArtWalk built on the success of previous months and although it is impossible to please all of the people all of the time ArtWalk is doing a sterling job of keeping happy, positive personality types entertained on the First Friday of the month.

"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep."  ~Scott Adams

And taking our lead from Mr Adams we move forward into June in the certain knowledge that, in our own small way, we are improving Downtown life and culture in Corpus Christi.

So put on your coat of positive attitude and come on Downtown to join us for a monthly fix of art, entertainment, and refreshments provided for you courtesy of our enthusiastic Downtown ArtWalk participating businesses.

Please also make time to visit and support our vendors in the park and at various other locations Downtown all of whom are selling items of their own creation. Even if these items are not to your taste they are art, they are the artists own work and they are deserving of your polite perusal if not purchase.

The Art Museum, the  Museum of Science & History and the Museum of Asian Cultures are definitely intent on joining ArtWalk and we expect to have an answer to the transport "problem" by the July event. Although the ArtWalk Express already stops at the Art Museum the other two venues are still out in the cold, or more aptly in the heat and humidity. So, stay tuned for an announcement regarding serious improvement to the Northern constituent of the Downtown ArtWalk.

On this day in history in 1946 the 1st bikini bathing suit was displayed in Paris, France (vaguely art related - bare with me here), in 350AD Roman usurper Nepotianus, of the Constantinian dynasty, proclaimed himself Roman Emperor, and entered Rome at the head of a group of gladiators. My suggestion of the month is that we adopt an earlier Roman adage "Veni, Vidi, Vici" and, paraphrasing, Come on Downtown, See what ArtWalk has to offer, and Conquer the fear of success.

See you in the park - bikini optional.

Art Museum
The exciting news is that The Art Museum of South Texas, The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, and the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures have all agreed to join us on ArtWalk.  We are still working on resolving transport issues to these three venues and expect to have a solution by the July event. However please take advantage of the attached coupon to visit the new exhibition at the Art Museum "In Search of Norman Rockwell's America" which opened May 6, 2011.

We are always looking for volunteers to help out on ArtWalk nights. Tasks include helping to set up / take down tents in the park, handing out maps / flyers throughout Downtown or on the tram / RTA Express, supervising the kids art area in the park, and many other small but helpful chores.
So if you would like to help please give Alan (361-463-8148) or Michelle (361-887-6834) a call.
Sincerely,
Alan Albin
