Fairfax County (VA) Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) and Minority-Owned Businesses
Fairfax County, VA is a prime business location and the heart of the northern Virginia and Washington area technology community. The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and provides demographic and economic statistics. One FCEDA's Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors, and another program supports the growth of small and minority-owned companies. The FCEDA maintains offices worldwide in Bangalore, London, Los Angeles, Munich, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
Join Biz Talk With Josh Host Joshua Smith this Thursday when he will feature FCEDA President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Gerald L. Gordon, along with the Founder, President and CEO of one of Fairfax County's highly acclaimed Hispanic-owned businesses, Mr. David Garcia of NMR Consulting. Josh, Dr. Gordon, and Mr. Garcia will talk about the recent successes experiences by Hispanic-Owned businesses in Fairfax County, and the County's national model for successful economic development programs.
Since Gerry Gordon has led the FCEDA, (starting in late 1983) office space in the county grew from 32 million square feet to more than 113 million square feet and jobs in the county grew from 243,000 to more than 600,000. He was instrumental in creating the Emerging Business Forum and bringing the 1998 World Congress on Information Technology to Fairfax County. In 2005, the FCEDA was named by Site Selection magazine as one of the Top Ten Economic Development organizations in North America.
Since 1996, David Garcia has led NMR Consulting with a vision to provide high quality networking and information technology services to the government. In the early days, the skills and traits he honed in the U.S. Army helped drive the company onward. Today NMR has been recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of the nation's fastest-growing private companies (Inc. 500, Inc. 5000), and by Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the country's 500 largest Hispanic-owned firms by revenue, and 100 fastest growing by revenue growth.
