Biz Talk With Josh Smith
Thursday, May 3, 2012 Entrepreneurs and Social Responsibility - Giving Back to the Community Being responsible for starting, funding, and growing a business, creating jobs, employing people, contributing to the tax base of the local, state and Federal government; developing and/or being part of a successful supply chain, receiving recognition from business and professional peers and organizations -- all of these elements are part of being an entrepreneur. But, it does not stop there. Often entrepreneurs become pillars of their communities by serving on community and corporate boards, creating foundations and reaching back / giving back to help others who while perhaps not employed by them, nevertheless benefit from their insight and efforts. This Thursday's guest on Biz Talk With Josh is an exceptional example of such an individual, Mr. Sid E. Taylor, President and CEO of SET Enterprises, Inc. Mr. Taylor, in addition to building a successful metal processing and construction business, has put together a 10 year-old scholarship program with mentoring support that targets young AfricanAmerican (B/C vs A students) and provides financial and counseling support to encourage them to seek college degrees. SET Enterprises is listed as the 18th largest Black-owned business in America by Black Enterprise Magazine - with 270 employees and annual revenue of $222 Million in 2011. Josh and Mr. Taylor will be joined by Mr. Anthony Robinson, President, Minority Business Enterprise Legal Defense and Education Fund (MBELDEF), who serves as the Maryland State Director of Mr. Taylor's Reallife 101 Scholarship Fund. Mr. Robinson is a frequent guest on Biz Talk With Josh on legal issues impacting minority and small businesses. |
