The state's economy is powered by the nation's top public schools, renowned universities, strategic location and one of America's most highly skilled workforces." Among other accolades, Maryland was the #1 state for growth in technology jobs in 2009; is #1 in the percentage of women-owned firms; and #2 in the percentage of African-American owned firms.
On Thursday April 7, Host Josh Smith has the pleasure of featuring the state of Maryland's top business and economic development executive, a member of governor Martin O'Malley's cabinet, Secretary Christian S. Johansson. Secretary Johansson is responsible for overseeing Maryland's nearly 250-employee business agency and its $85.6 million budget. Before being appointed by the governor in 2009, Mr. Johansson served for 6 years as CEO of the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore. He is an entrepreneur and management consultant who served on President Obama's transition team and Executive Committee for Urban and Metropolitan Policy.
During the second segment of Thursday's show, Josh will be joined by Ms. Sharon Pinder, President and CEO, The Pinder Group, LLC. Recognized as an entrepreneur and an effective change agent, Ms. Pinder is best known for her work as the architect of Maryland's minority and small business reform movement. Previously serving as Special Secretary of the Governor's Office of Minority Affairs, Ms. Pinder is also the creator of Maryland's 100 Top MBE Awards Program.
