Does your garden have good bones?

Since most of the leaves are off of the trees, now is a great time to examine the structure of your landscape and start planning for next spring.  Many professionals talk about the "bones" of the garden, but what do they mean when they use this term, and how does it fit into garden design?

In garden design the term "bones" refers to something architectural that defines the structure of the garden.  It can be artificial, such as an arbor or sculpture, or it can be a plant.  Very often the focal point is an evergreen tree or shrub.  The bones are basically an outlining foundations, with trees, structures, or paths, from which the rest of the garden can be built.

Venison on the Barbie

by The Chandler's "Secret Recipe"

Ingredients

  • Deer Loin
  • Meat Tenderizer
  • Steak Seasoning
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Bacon

Soak deer loin 12 to 24 hours in salt water.  Rinse meat, and then rub it down with meat tenderizer and steak seasoning.  Drop it into a gallon zip lock bag and marinate it in Worcestershire sauce for another 12 to 24 hours.  Wrap it in bacon and grill for approximately 45 minutes, turning frequently so that the bacon is done.  Slice and serve.  This recipe can also be used with tenderloin or rump roast.
