Q. Will bee balm and cone flowers bloom again if they are cute back?
 
A. Both will rebloom when deadheaded. There is a difference though. 

The Bee Balm responds better to deadheading and will reproduce many mature flowers. Although Cone Flowers produce new flowers from their lateral buds, the new flowers will be smaller that the originals. If you dead head now this late in the season they might not produce new flowers. I usually either leave mine for the birds to enjoy the seeds, or if I deadhead, I turn the cones upside down in the soft soil of my garden. I love to see the new plants pop up in the spring. If the cone flowers you have are hybrids, there is always a surprise to see the color of the blooms from the seedlings.

Greenhouse Update
 
Although this is the slow time of the year for us as far as greenhouse production is concerned, we still have quite a bit growing.  During this time of the year we are already looking to Fall and Winter.  In the summer months we start growing our Fall wholesale and retail crops.  These crops include Mums (left) and pansies (bottom left).
 
We are also looking forward to Christmas!  At this time of the year we have weekly shipments of poinsettia cuttings arriving from Dummen's facilities in El Salvador and Ethiopia that we are rooting for wholesale customers and our own production (bottom right).

Vegetable Garden Skillet

Recipe by: Stella Morgan, Letart, WV

 

Ingredients
One Large Onion 
2 Tbs. Olive Oil
1/2 Cup Shredded Carrots
3 Zucchini (Diced)
3 Yellow Squash (Diced)
1 Can Whole Kernel Corn (Drained)
1 Small Jar Diced Pimientos (Drained)
2 Cups Finely Shredded Cheese

Directions
In a large skillet start one large diced onion sautéing in 2 tbs. of olive oil.  Add to that 1/2 cup of shredded carrots.  Dice three zucchini, three yellow squash, and add to skillet.  Cook as desired.  Then add one can of drained whole kernel corn, one small jar of drained diced pimientos.  Season to taste and heat through.  Turn skillet off and top with 2 cups of finely shredded cheese of your choice, allow cheese to melt, and enjoy!
