| WELCOME TO WFM! |
Our goal is to create and sell food that we believe in...and that inspires our loyal shoppers. We love supporting our local food chain and think it's one of the most important things we can do for our community. I think what sets us apart is that we really take this job of "bringing the food to the people" very seriously. We're concerned about the process: what we charge for our products, what ingredients we use in our food, how clean we are, who our vendors and farmers are, where our fruits, vegetables and ingredients come from and how we treat each other and our guests.
If you have any questions we could address in a future Newsletter, or suggestions for upcoming Market Events,
please e-mail us at mail@woodstockfarmersmarket.com.
We welcome your thoughts. |
| LISA'S CHEESE PICKS! |
Where is the local goat cheese? I answer this question several times a week. Most goats are not milked during the winter. They are resting and preparing for the arrival of spring kids (baby goats). Well, spring has sprung, and local Vermont goat cheese is beginning to appear again. Feeding on the first flush of grass and a lush variety of newly sprouted vegetation, the goat's milk tends to have a complexity and herbal quality that we have been anticipating during the long winter months. This week we welcome back La Roche from Lazy Lady Farm, a bloomy rind, a pasteurized French type cheese.
Since many of Vermont's fine artisanal cheeses are seasonal, we welcome back old friends, but let's not forget to enjoy the last few weeks of others. We are still receiving good supplies of Winnemere from Jasper Hill Farm. This washed rind round of goodness is bathed in local lambic beer and banded with spruce bark, harvested on the farm. A little bit stinky, very creamy with a great salty balance, this cheese is no shrinking violet. Unlike a delicate spring goat's milk cheese, Winnemere has attitude - not unlike the Vermont winter month's in which its made.
Lisa Battliana is our Executive Chef and Retail Representative of the Vermont Cheese Council Executive Board. |
