Prepare for Worship

FROM PASTOR BRENT:

Dear Friends,

Sunday we continue the sermon series from Luke 15.  What character is missing from the story of the Prodigal Son? - a TRUE older brother.  We will reflect on how Christ is our true older brother and how we worship him through the discipline of gratitude.  Communion will be one of the ways we offer our gratitude to Him.

Read Luke 15 as part of your devotional time.  Perhaps you'd like to invest your time in the following resources that will add to the richness of what God says to you throughout this sermon series:

  • Of course, reading Luke 15 itself is the best way to open your heart to God's message to you.  Click here for an online link.

  • The book Prodigal God by Tim Keller.  Click here to learn more about this book.  The word "Prodigal" actually means reckless spending of all one has - therefore Keller says not only is the younger son a prodigal with his share of the estate but so is the Father in the story (who represents God) who recklessly spending all He has to have a find restoration with His sons.

See you at 10:30 a.m. in the room behind the organ for prayer.

Freedom in Worship

"Do you know the main events that happened in the year you were born?  I was born in 1956 and that was the year that president Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Highway Act which starting the building of our interstate system and  Elvis released his first hit..."Hound Dog".  Do you remember the day you accepted Christ?  This Sunday is our communion service and my prayer is that as we take the elements of His body and blood, we will not only remember Christ death on the cross but also the day when it was applied to our lives."

Healing Service recap from Feb.1

Here is one email response I received from Wednesday's healing service:

Dr. Vanhook,

My name is Marvin.  I had the honor of attending your church's healing service last night.  I wanted to convey that Rev. Brad Riley did a most excellent job.

I am currently helping at [a local ministry].  I had heard about your church's monthly healing service.  God has called me to the path of a healer.  I was curious about services being held.

I was not only impressed by Rev. Riley's message, but by the friendliness of your staff when I showed up with my 9-year old daughter.  They took very good care of her and she was full with stories about her hour with them.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say "thank you" on the multiple items I have said.  I am looking forward to next month's service.  Perhaps I will get to meet you and hear sermon as well.

Your Brother in Whom Christ Dwells,

Brother Marvin
