Dear Friends and Supporters,

We hope you can join us on Wednesday, July 21st from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. for the groundbreaking ceremony of the North Beach Oceanfront Center, UNIDAD Senior Center.  This event will take place at the Bandshell Park, 7251 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach.

After almost a decade of hope, inspiration and hard work, we are about to embark upon the construction of UNIDAD's Senior Center, an example of public-private partnerships at their best. We are excited; this new building will offer an array of services to local residents and the community at-large.

The project site was originally a U.S. Coast Guard house of refuge, and for many years thereafter, a City of Miami Beach lifesaving and comfort station.  The building is still owned by the City of Miami Beach and funding for the construction comes from the City of Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County.  The construction of this iconic building marks a new era in service to the senior population.

The Center will offer seniors a range of activities and services, including nutritious meals, employment training and placement, counseling, support groups, nutrition/health screenings, and assistance with immigration-related issues. The Center will also provide opportunities for cultural enrichment, exercise/fitness classes (picture yoga outside on the beachfront sand!) and social interaction, all of which are significant factors in an active lifestyle correlated with greater longevity, independent living, and good health.

Our profound gratitude is extended to UNIDAD's co-founders: Mayor Matilde Herrera Bower and visionary leader, Victor M. Diaz, Jr., for their role in helping to accomplish the vision of this project.  The North Beach Oceanfront Center is made possible through the partnership of the City of Miami Beach through the leadership of the Commissioners and City Manager, Jorge Gonzalez.  We value the continued support and major contributions of Miami-Dade County.  Special thanks to our Governing Board of Directors, President Maria Saboya and Senior Management for their leadership, dedication and diligence.

Please RSVP to attend our groundbreaking for this architectural gem.  We look forward to seeing you at this fabulous celebration of the past, present and future!
