TESTIMONIAL
|

Dear Rosy,
I have
read A Tale of Serendipity with so much pleasure. It may not be intended for
adults, or not for adults who aren't also children, which I certainly am.
Intended or not, I found it full of grace and light, love and tenderness,
a willingness to face great difficulty, the courage to overcome it.
You
have created such a convincing world; when I was falling asleep, after reading
the book, I felt that I was slipping underwater with a very particular
seal-like body. I love their birth-songs and the entire mythology you
have created for them.
I can't wait for the continuing adventure
and more illustrations.
This is a delight. I can easily imagine how
many children (of any age) it is going to make very happy...
Love, Kim Chernin, PhD(Author of numerous works of fiction, non-fiction and poetry)

VOTE FOR ME! (before May 3rd!)
| |
Hello all,
I can hardly believe I'm writing this, but I (Rosy who has avoided all forms of competition her entire life) have entered a contest! It's called The Next Top Spiritual Author Competition. A wonderful friend told me about it, and for some incomprehensible reason, perhaps because of this contest's unusually collaborative vibe, I found myself saying, "What the heck! Why not use this personally-stretching opportunity to bring A Tale of Serendipity to as many kids as possible." If you feel intrigued, click here (or on the link above), and you'll be taken directly to my profile page. There you'll see a fun video Kim, Maya and I put together before I even knew I'd be entering this contest. If you'd like to add your vote, just click the "Click to Register" link right below the video. Once you've registered, you'll see a button saying, 'VOTE FOR THIS AUTHOR/BOOK'. Click that too, and we're good to go for Round One (which ends on May 3rd)! (Sorry if this process is a little complicated. Just know that I REALLY appreciate your support! And of course, this is one of those viral things, so if you're up for spreading the word, thank you, thank you, thank you!)

NEWS & UPDATES!

The Gift that Keeps on Giving
I'm happy to report that thanks to the generosity of the first people to buy my books, Luna the orphaned seal from the National Seal Sanctuary has been fed and cared for, and the Headlands Institute in the Bay Area has received its first donation from me! It's felt especially good to be able to dedicate a portion of all proceeds to people and organizations doing such good work in the world.
Fun Adventures
Just a couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of participating in the 26th Annual Run for the Seals Event, hosted by the Marine Mammal Center. It was so inspiring to be surrounded by such enthusiastic sea-life supporters, and to get my first tour of the Marine Mammal Center. They're doing such wonderful things there, and I'm already learning so much from this whole experience. (I've posted some more pictures from the day on my Facebook fan page, which of course, you're welcome to check out!)
IPad, Here We Come
I'm in the process of making my book IPad ready! The transformation taking place in the publishing/book industry is truly amazing. It's exciting to be a part of this new wave of technology, venturing forth along with other authors into territories that we're only beginning to understand.
More Podcasts on the Way
Since my last announcement, I've added two more chapters to my unfolding podcast. More are on the way. Click here to hear the latest chapters, or visit my fan page, where I always announce new ones as soon as they're up and running.
Book Readings
Sometimes I'm shocked by my own life. If you asked me just a year ago whether I could see myself doing book readings at elementary schools, I would laugh out loud. Me? Sitting in front of a big bunch of kids, reading something I wrote?! And yet, here I am, having the greatest time sharing A Tale of Serendipity (along with personal stories and stickers!) with 3rd-5th graders in the local community. So far the children have been engaged and curious, and their questions profound.
Reaching Out
Largely thanks to the heroic efforts of my mom!, I've begun reaching out to a bunch of inspiring environmental, spiritual and educational organizations & resources, looking for creative ways to collaborate and opportunities to reach more children with this story. (Any and all suggestions/potential contacts you might have for me are most welcome!) A wise person recently said this whole outreach/marketing process is a lot like throwing spaghetti against the wall and seeing what sticks. She wasn't kidding. Let's pray for sticky noodles!
Reading Guide for Teachers & Parents
Because this children's tale touches on complex, adult themes, it has the potential to evoke meaningful
conversation between teachers and their students, as well as parents and their children. I'm in the process of crafting a simple Guide for teachers and parents who might appreciate having a list of questions by their side, designed to enhance and deepen their students' and children's reading experience.
Fan Page Growing
Finally, I'd love to invite you to join A Tale of Serendipity's fan page on Facebook. I regularly add postings with updates and fun tidbits of information. Your presence and support there means the world to me!

For my Readers...
|
|
Thank you so much for receiving my book! To enhance your (or your child's) enjoyment, here are a few things to do and/or keep in mind:
On the very very first page of your book, you'll find a label with a special invitation. Please don't miss it! I would so love it if you could help me track the migration of A Tale of Serendipity, just like real scientists track the migration of our sea/seal friends. Whether you've bought the book yourself, or received it as a gift or donation, please take this opportunity to share where you are and how the book found you!
A True Migration Map Story: A four-year-old found one of the
random books dropped off by the "Serendipity for Peace Agent" (my
daughter Maya in the video above). Here's what her mom had to say:
"My 4 year old daughter was visiting the playground at the park and spotted the book. She then proudly walked through the Cal campus clutching it to her chest, for all the world a freshman student! That was two days ago and she has yet to be parted from it. We're in Berkeley for only three weeks, so will be taking our copy back to Edinburgh, Scotland, where we shall release it into the wild."
A CHILDREN'S BOOK ADDRESSING ADULT THEMES
A Tale of Serendipity was written for Middle Readers -- children between the ages of 8 and 12. Because the book touches on serious themes of an emotional nature, I encourage parents and teachers to allow the tale to inspire meaningful conversations at home and in the classroom.
FACT OR FICTION?
One
of my main desires in writing A Tale of Serendipity is to inspire
affection in kids towards animals and our natural environment. So yes, you will certainly find some facts about seals and marine life in this tale.
However, in the end, A Tale of Serendipity is a work of fiction, written more from the perspective of an imaginative heart than a scientific mind. I encourage all kids who are hungry to learn even more about actual seals, dolphins and marine life to explore the many wonderful scientific resources that are out there. Over time, I intend to share more of these resources on my web page.
WELCOMING TESTIMONIALS
if you (or your child) have read the story and it touched you in some way, or you simply enjoyed the adventure, please let me know! A few words of positive encouragement can go a long way in the life of a newly launched author!
