Nancy Campbell Collegiate Institute Newsletter

"Nancy Campbell Collegiate Institute was a family, a community, and a learning experience unparalleled."

  - Josh Weber, Class of 2001

Since Nancy Campbell Collegiate Institute (NCCI) first opened its doors seventeen years ago, hundreds of students have benefited from its unique and holistic curriculum. Successful education encourages self-reflection, nurtures a deep sense of service and draws upon and cultivates community networks and resources.

Nancy Campbell Collegiate Institute is making a concerted effort to maintain a conversation with its community members regarding student achievements, school events and news, alumni success stories and opportunities for service. In this pursuit, a quarterly NCCI community newsletter will be distributed and our Facebook page and website will be updated regularly. We invited you to visit us online and see how you can get involved with NCCI.

What's Happening at NCCI? NCCI Foundation - April 16, 2011

On Saturday, April 16th Nancy Campbell Collegiate Institute (NCCI) Foundation will proudly present the Student Spring Showcase during the afternoon and host the Blue Moon Music Hall and Dinner during the evening.

Student Showcases have become a much-loved

Nancy Campbell Collegiate tradition. "Spring and Fall Showcases are always a hit," said Josy Britton, NCCI Foundation board member. "I love how NCCI fosters the unique abilities and creativity of each student. The Spring Showcase provides an opportunity for students to perform and to be celebrated and supported by the community. It's a very uplifting event!"  Family, friends and community members will be treated to a diverse set of performances from both elementary and high school students that will include singing, instrumental pieces, dancing and poetry.

Following the Student Spring Showcase, which will take place from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Royal View Church, parents and students are invited to attend the Blue Moon Music Hall and Dinner. This fundraising event will feature fabulous food, music and storytelling. Ed VandenDool, Mike Dragoman, Brett Smith and Loraina Fox, who is a former NCCI student, are the event's headlining acts. When asked why he decided to be involved in the event, Ed VandenDool responded: "My son attended NCCI and graduated in 2004. He had a wonderful experience. My daughter was a performing arts teacher at NCCI. I am excited to be a part of this event because I believe in the mission of the school and I want to support it."

Whatever happened to... Conan Wu?

Conan studied at NCCI for grades 10 and 11. Originally from China, Conan had always wanted to attend high school in Canada and he learned about Nancy Campbell Collegiate Institute through the school's website. Nancy Campbell Collegiate Institute is "a place that encourages one to think deeper about life and the world" Conan says.

Conan finished grade 12 in Toronto and went to the University of Toronto for its mathematics specialist program.  A truly gifted student, Conan completed her Bachelor's degree in only two years. She spent one year of graduate studies at Northwestern University and is now completing her PhD in mathematics at Princeton University. When asked what influence NCCI has had on her work, Conan says "I highly appreciate the approach Mr. Neal takes in his calculus classes. So far I have not met a single North American mathematician who has seen the 'epsilon-delta' version of continuity in a high school classroom. My professors and I all think this is the way calculus should be taught, and as such, I am particularly happy that I was able to study calculus with Mr. Neal."
