Greetings!
November is a great month to explore your Metro Parks. Our 14 natural-area parks offer endless opportunities for safe outdoor recreation and learning.
The popular Fall Hiking Spree wraps up its 48th year on November 30. Take advantage of cooler weather to earn a staff and commemorative shield by hiking at least eight designated trails. Our volunteers will even attach your shield for free on select Saturdays.
See you on the trails,

November Outdoor Almanac | Deer mating season ("the rut") begins. Males chase females relentlessly -- sometimes across busy roads -- so be careful when driving through the Metro Parks. At the Nature Realm and Silver Creek, milkweed pods open and the feathered seeds are whisked away by the wind. Witch hazel is in bloom; look for its long, spidery yellow flowers.

Featured Trail: Dogwood Trail | The 1.8-mile Dogwood Trail in Sand Run Metro Park is one of the most demanding hikes in the park district. The towering forest is home to red, gray and fox squirrels; screech, barred and great horned owls; and pileated woodpeckers. Red-tailed hawks roost in the treetops when they are not soaring over the ridges. View a short video about this trail on our YouTube channel.
