September Outdoor Almanac | Many trees, like maples, ashes and black gum, begin to show their fall colors. The last wildflower blooms of asters and goldenrods (pictured) add even more color to open fields. Migrating birds are heading to warmer climates in South America and the Caribbean. Thousands of visitors hit the trails for the annual Fall Hiking Spree.
