August Header

Greetings!

Shorter days and (hopefully) cooler weather bring new opportunities to your Metro Parks. The Sunday Summer Concert series at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm begins on August 7 and offers great ways to end your weekends. The 48th annual Fall Hiking Spree starts September 1, but you can get early spree credit during the kickoff on Sunday, August 28.

Take time to enjoy summer in your Metro Parks.

August Outdoor Almanac

Jewelweed has formed seed pods; when touched, the pods explode, giving the plant its second name: touch-me-not. Bats swarm to caves and begin looking for places to hibernate. Nighthawks gather to begin their southward migration; listen for their buzzy "peent" calls at dusk near Goodyear Heights, the Gorge and Firestone.

Featured Trail: Chuckery Trail

The 2.4-mile Chuckery Trail gives hikers a glimpse of the Indian Signal Tree, reportedly shaped by American Indians. This is the longest trail on the 48th annual Fall Hiking Spree and its "3" rating means to expect a strenuous hike.
