The PTO has scheduled another Juice It Up Friday for 10/22

Principal's Message
Principal's Message

Dear Cougar Families,

Just a few brief words about Loma Vista's Fall Parent Conferences and RTI Reading Groups.

Parent Conferences:

We look forward to seeing you during our Fall Parent Conferences (Goal Setting)-Monday, October 11 through Friday, October 15.  We cannot stress enough the importance of the student-teacher-parent relationship and how this communication is paramount to student learning.  Please remember that students will have an early dismissal time of 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday of that week.  Be sure to plan accordingly and make pick-up arrangements for your child.

DIBELS/RtI Reading Groups:

In the area of instruction, our teachers have just completed administering the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills).  DIBELS provides a baseline reading ability for each student and is administered three times a year.  We begin RtI (Response to Instruction) in reading this Monday, October 4.  We would like to welcome four new RtI Support Teachers to Loma Vista: Mrs. Christy Platt (Rm A-4), Mrs. Susie Torres (Rm E-2), Mrs. Amy Cohen (Rm E-3), and Mrs. Katie Pinney (Rm D-2).  Mrs. Cohen is a returning RtI Teacher, Mrs. Pinney comes to us from Tustin Ranch, Mrs. Platt comes to us from Long Beach Unified, and Mrs. Torres comes to us from Lowell Joint Unified.  We are so excited to have these credentialed teachers on board to support our reading program.  Remember that RtI is a process whereby students are leveled in reading groups across each grade level for one hour.  We will also need committed volunteers who will support the classroom reading program on a regular basis.  Basically, we need reading group support.  Please contact Carol Leaman in the school office if you are able to volunteer and support the reading groups.

As always, we appreciate your support.

Go Cougars!

Thanks,

Molly Murphy, Principal

Walk to School Day!

International Walk to School Day gives children, parents, school teachers and community leaders an opportunity to be part of a global event as they celebrate the many benefits of walking. In 2009, millions of walkers from around the world walked to school together for various reasons - all hoping to create communities that are safe places to walk.

The PTO will be serving bagels and juice
at the front entrance of school for all those
that walk to school that day!

Car Seat Safety Event

Car Seat with Sherrif PicFREE CAR Seat Safety Check-Up

Wednesday, 10/13
Loma Vista Elementary
8:30-12:00

In the State of California more than 80% of children's car seats are used or installed incorrectly.  Don't put your child at risk!  Come to the free car seat check up and have a trained California Highway Patrol car seat technician teach you how to properly install your car seat.  If your car seat is found to be unsafe or recalled, replacements will be available.

The CHP wants to make sure your child is properly secured in their car seat!

Inspections will be performed on a first come, first served basis.
