"CHANGE For Haiti" - Haitian Earthquake Fundraiser
OSS 09 1
On January 12, 2010, a massive earthquake struck the nation of Haiti, causing catastrophic damage inside and around the capital city of Port-au-Prince. President Obama has promised the people of Haiti that "you will not be forsaken; you will not be forgotten."

Next week at Loma Vista, the PTO will be partnering with the Student Council with "CHANGE For Haiti."  We will be collecting money next Tuesday through Friday to make a donation for Haiti to the American Red Cross.

Our small change can make a big difference for the hundreds of thousands of people affected by this crisis.

5th Grade Fun & Learning
at Outdoor Science School in December!
OSS 09 1The 5th graders had a terrific time at Outdoor Science School in December.  Going up the week before the Holiday Break, Loma Vista students and their teachers experienced beautiful weather, exciting opportunities for scientific discovery, nature hikes, 3 minute showers, new friendships and delicious home-cooked meals (the teachers' favorite part of the week!)  See below for some pictures of this great trip!

Fourth Grade Parents:  Your Child Will Be Going Next Year!
Save NOW by Purchasing SCRIP Gift Cards Through the PTO!
It's A PAINLESS Way to Pay for YOUR CHILD'S Trip!
Buy SCRIP Gift Cards NOW -
Pay for Outdoor Science School LATER!!!!
Purchase VISA Gift Cards with NO FEE!!!

What Are SCRIP Gift Cards???
Negotiable store gift cards that are used
JUST LIKE CASH at any store in that chain!  They are the same ones you can buy at the store, but by buying them through Loma Vista, you get credit for a % of the face value. This is now the
ONLY PTO way to earn $ for your child's 5th grade OSS Tuition.

How Does SCRIP at Loma Vista Benefit MY Child?
The % listed next to the store gets credited to your child's OSS  savings account.  (100.00 (4%) - Vons Supermarket (4%)= $4) You are earning money buying what you would buy anyway!

How do I start?
Select the gift cards you wish to buy, fill out the form and return to the Front Office with a check made out to the LOMA VISTA PTO

Orders can be picked-up in the Front Office the following Friday.

(Because SCRIP Gift Cards have actual cash value, orders must be signed for in the Front Office.)

How much can I earn for my child?
For example, the Del Crognale family has been buying SCRIP Gift cards since October and has already earned $126.00 toward Outdoor Science School next year.  They bought Home Depot cards for home improvement projects, VISA gift cards for vacation and gift purchases, Amazon gift certificates, Stater Bros grocery cards and Chevron gas cards.  They bought only what they would use and looked for stores that have a big % back (For example - Home Depot had 10% back in October!)  It was EASY!!!

THANK YOU TO:

Amy Paulson, Diana Rodgers, Caroline Hill and Bridget Morehead for coming Wednesday to the first official Library Labeling Day!
 Your help is
very much appreicated!!

Library: Labeling Days

Can you help label books in the Library?  We don't need $$$, just some time!!!!

Mondays 8:30 to 11:30  Wednesdays 9:00 to 11:30
.
On these two mornings, there are no classes scheduled in the Library so we can have free access and room to work.

We would love to have any help you can offer, even an hour is great!  If Mondays and Wednesdays work for you, that's WONDERFUL!  We'll see you there!  If those times don't work for you, contact Mrs. Farrington at  jfarrington@tustin.k12.ca.us  to see if the Library is open when you would like to come in!

"Mrs. D"

It is with sad hearts that Loma Vista learned of the passing of of one of our long time volunteers, Dorothy Girlamano, "Mrs. D" on January 9th.
"Mrs. D" was a much loved volunteer in Kindergarten.  She added so much to Mrs. Howe's and Mrs. Mathews' classes and will be missed.
