Parent Survey

The ideas and opinions of our parents and guardians are very important to our school in maintaining a strong educational program.  Please share your thoughts by completing an online survey located on the district home page beginning January 21, 2010.  Your survey responses will be confidential and used to help us evaluate and strengthen the educational program at our school.  Thank you, in advance, for taking a few moments to take the survey.

CHP Toy Drive

Thank you again for your participation in our California Highway Patrol and Student Council Toy Drive.  We collected 296 toys for children in our area.  Officer Boatman and his fellow officers were touched by our generosity and support.  Thank you again for making a difference in the lives of children.

Ronald McDonald House

Our Community Service Project for the month of January and February is the "Orange County Ronald McDonald House Pop Tab Collection Program."  Over 20 years ago, a group of caring doctors, parents, and volunteers had a dream of building a Ronald McDonald House in Orange County so that parents could stay close to their hospitalized child.  The Orange County Ronald McDonald House located at 383 South Batavia Street in Orange does just that by providing all of the comforts of home for just $10.00.  These families receive nutritious meals provided by volunteers, obtain emotional support through contact with other families experiencing similar situations, and much more.  Therefore, to support this program, we will be collecting pop tabs.   What is a pop tab?  A pop tab is the piece of metal that opens aluminum cans.  Like the can, the pull-tab is recyclable and helps our environment while helping our families.   So start collecting pop tabs, and as always thanks for your support!

Parking!

Please, please, please do not ever park in the front Trinity Church parking lot or in the Loma Vista staff parking lot.  Trinity has graciously offered their back parking lot for the use of the Loma Vista community.  Trinity has grown in their parishioners and programs.  There are many morning programs for the seniors and the disabled who need access to the front church parking lot.  Violators will be towed.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.  Again, we are very thankful that Trinity allows us to park in their back parking lot.  We have a lovely path leading from this parking lot to our playground.  As always, thank you for your support!

Ronald McDonald House - Grade Level Contest
During the months of January and February, our Cougar students will be collecting soda can "pop-tabs" as a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House of Orange County.  In order to add to the fun the PTO will sponsor a Rootbeer Float Party for the grade turns in the highest number of "pop-tab" filled collection houses.

The wonderful ladies in the Front Office will coordinate the "pop-tab" collection and Mrs. Flores, our Community Liason, will track the class donations on our Cougar Class Banner.  So let's put all those pop-tabs we usually throw away to good use!

RECYCLING NEWS AND INFORMATION
Dearest Recyclers,

We are taking another run at making some money for our children's programs at Loma Vista: assemblies, field trips, new reading programs, etc.

Recycling bags will be sent home this Monday.
Please fill these bags with:
 redeemable bottles and cans
marked CA or CA redemption
and return anytime to the
FRONT of the huge gray container
in front of school.

You may mix bottles and cans together in the same bag. You may also use your own bags.
I will sort and store them.

A full container can make us up to $1000.00!!!!

Unfortunately there are no longer buyers for plastic bags or paper (newspapers/magazines, etc.), so please recycle those at home. However, Loma Vista is still green!  We are donating our paper to Foothill High School.  Thanks so much for your help and Happy New Year!

ASSEMBLY NEWS

THE PERFECT GENTLEMEN
We had a great in-school assembly in December. The Perfect Gentlemen took our kids on a tour through the history of 20th Century American music with "100 Years of Harmony!".  This wonderful a capella group showed the kids how music has changed by singing "Harvest Moon" in the style of barbershop, the 40's, 50's, 60's 70's and rap.  It was a wonderful show!

Click on the link above to hear a taste of these great singers!

THE KOREAN CLASSICAL MUSIC & DANCE CO.
Today, Kristy Fox, Erin Kayl and Carrie Nicholson have invited The Korean Classical Music and Dance Company to perform for our kids. This splendidly costumed ensemble boasts a rich and varied repertoire of exciting dances that are presented with the grace and elegance characteristic of this ancient dance form.
