A Note From Miss Murphy
US Army Soldier Lane Mobley
The Loma Vista Cougars have adopted US Army Soldier Lane Mobley.  Lane Mobley is a 1995 graduate of Loma Vista and his 24th birthday is on Saturday, November 14, 2009, which he will be spending in Iraq.  Here is a bit of background from his mom Lynn Mobley: "My son, Lane Mobley, a graduate of Loma Vista, is a soldier in the US Army and has been deployed to Iraq.  He may be in transit now from their training center in Kuwait, where he's been since October 10 or so.  My request is that you consider this - I would love for him to be "adopted" for the duration of his deployment by either a classroom or grade level!  His birthday is on 11/14/09 when he turns 24 years old . . . and I would LOVE to have a package for him from well-wishing kids back home to greet him."  Mrs. Mobley is thrilled that the Loma Vista Cougars will take the time to wish her son well and send him Happy Birthday greetings.  I let her know that we will continue to make cards for him throughout the year.  Lane also has friends stationed in Afghanistan as well.  We cannot thank enough the men and women who serve to secure America's freedom.

Art Master Program
Our Art Master Program is underway at Loma Vista with a focus on these fine artists: Cezanne, Monet, Homer, Van Gogh, and Picasso. The Art Master program offers sequential study in visual arts designed to compliment the history, social studies, and language arts frameworks.  Under the amazing guidance of our art teacher, Trish Booth, our students studied the art of French painter Paul Cezanne 1839-1906. The slide show lecture and presentation allowed the students to learn about Paul Cezanne's special way of seeing forms in nature as basic geometric shapes.  The in-class studio art project involved the art medium of paper and tissue collage with a focus on shape and color in still-life and landscape paintings. Our next artist is Claude Monet who earned the title "Father of Impressionism."  We look forward to seeing our students' luminous masterpieces thanks to the sponsorship of our amazing PTO who pays for the Art Master program for our students.
