Del Mar College is beginning a landmark year. This spring, we will open the new Fine Arts Complex addition that features expanded facilities for drama and broadcasting as we design new facilities for music. Del Mar College is one of the only community colleges in the country holding national accreditation for our three fine arts programs: music, art and drama.

We're developing Facilities, Academic and Marketing Master Plans to keep our strategic focus on the future as we serve more than 11,500 students this semester.

The College continues its involvement in community initiatives by co-hosting the Higher Education Summit and hosting the Human Trafficking Conference. College executives are collaborating with other Coastal Bend leaders on the windstorm insurance issues and other concerns for our area.

We continue to cultivate scholarship funds and grants for instructional resources. Del Mar College will continue to bring nationally-recognized educational opportunities to the local community throughout this new year.

Hispanic  Women's Network Scholarship

Dr. Mary Jane Garza, chair of the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas-Corpus Christi Chapter, presented to College President Dr. Mark Escamilla a check for $25,000 this past December. HWNT-CC members set a goal two years ago and began building the funds to establish an endowed scholarship to help Del Mar College students pursue their dreams. The organization is specifically dedicated to
promoting the advancement of women in public, corporate and civic life through education and professional development.

Board Redistricting Approved
Del Mar College's Board of Regents unanimously approved a resolution for a final redistricting plan to balance out its single-member districts by redistributing Southside population growth.

Our Students Do Better
According to Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board data presented at the Higher Education Summit last semester, Del Mar College students transferring to Texas universities consistently outperform other transfer students on academic success.
Saving Your Money

As the fall semester ended, the College refinanced part of the 2003 Capital Improvement Bond funds resulting in a $2.6 million savings for College District taxpayers. This advanced refunding of $36 million in bond funds was made possible in part by the College's good financial ratings of AA+ with Fitch, Aa2 with Moody's and AA with Standard and Poor's financial firms.
