Creighton Award Winner Announced

The College announced its tenth recipient of the Aileen Creighton Award for Teaching Excellence--Marla Chisholm, Professor of Speech in the Department of Communications, Languages and Reading--during the opening of DMC's Faculty Professional Development Day held in preparation for the spring semester.

Keas Honored by YWCA

| Lenora Keas, Executive Director of Strategic Planning and Assessment, was one of eight additions this year in the YWCA "Y Women in Careers Hall of Fame." Keas and the other honorees will be recognized at the 32nd Annual Awards Banquet on March 1.

Hispanic Women's Network Scholarship
|
Dr. Mary Jane Garza, chair of the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas-Corpus Christi Chapter, presented to College President Dr. Mark Escamilla a check for $25,000 this past December. HWNT-CC members set a goal two years ago and began building the funds to establish an endowed scholarship to help Del Mar College students pursue their dreams. The organization is specifically dedicated to promoting the advancement of women in public, corporate and civic life through education and professional development.

Board Redistricting Approved
|
Del Mar College's Board of Regents unanimously approved a resolution for a final redistricting plan to balance out its single-member districts by redistributing Southside population growth.

Our Students Do Better
|
According to Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board data presented at the Higher Education Summit last semester, Del Mar College students transferring to Texas universities consistently outperform other transfer students on academic success.

Saving Your Money
|
As the fall semester ended, the College refinanced part of the 2003 Capital Improvement Bond funds resulting in a $2.6 million savings for College District taxpayers. This advanced refunding of $36 million in bond funds was made possible in part by the College's good financial ratings of AA+ with Fitch, Aa2 with Moody's and AA with Standard and Poor's financial firms.
