Susquehanna Heritage Lecture Series

Anthracite Iron Furnaces on the Lower Susquehanna

Wednesday June 8 - 6:30pm at the Zimmerman Center for Heritage

 

Join Dr. June Evans, retired Millersville University Professor, for a lecture on the Anthracite Iron Furnaces on the Lower Susquehanna. This industry played a short-lived but very important part in Pennsylvania's leading role as an iron producer in the second half of the 19th century. The illustrated lecture summarizes this story as told through archaeology, photographs and historical documents.  

  

Registration is required and available online or by calling 717-252-0229 ext. 4  Proceeds benefit the Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. 
Cost: $8 for SGHA Members/$12 non-members - advance registration is required

Summer Weekend Hours

The Zimmerman Center for Heritage (ZCH) will be open to the public for the following weekends this summer from 11am-3pm: June 11 & 12, July 30 & 31, August 20 & 21. The Visions of the Susquehanna river art collection is also available for viewing.

 

Guided Tours

SGHA offers guided tours of the ZCH on the first Friday of each month, year round, from 10am-3pm. Tours are also available by appointment during our regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Please schedule in advance to ensure we are available to receive your group.
