SGHA invites you to take a journey and discover what the Lower Susquehanna was like 600 million years ago when a vast ocean covered the region.

Join Jeri Jones, owner of Jones Geological Services and Program Coordinator for York County Parks, for a fascinating lecture that tells the story of two continental "wrecks" and breakups. Learn the story hidden in our rocks that tell of a large "Everglades" swamp in northern York County, and why some people think the Susquehanna River actually flowed north at one time. The lecture will also include a brief history of the evolution of the Susquehanna River and why it is classified as one of the most fascinating natural features in the country.

Jones is well respected in his field, having won many awards for his work. He has written numerous papers and articles on various geological topics, and has presented at conferences and lectures across the country.  Jones is a continuing education instructor at HACC's Gettysburg Campus and is a member of the Geological Society of America, the Central Pennsylvania Rock and Mineral Club, and the York County Astronomical Society  

The cost for the lecture is $8 for SGHA Members and $12 for non-members. Due to limited seating, advance registration is required. (Visit our Membership Page to learn about SGHA Memberships). Light refreshments will be served.
