Susquehanna Heritage Lecture Series
Safe Harbor Petroglyphs - A Native American Legacy Carved in Stone
Presented by Paul Nevin
Wednesday December 1, 2010, 7pm Zimmerman Center for Heritage
1706 Long Level Road
Wrightsville, PA 17368
The Safe Harbor Petroglyphs are an enigma of the Susquehanna River. Laying almost forgotten for many years, these ancient American Indian rock carvings were "rediscovered" by Paul Nevin in the 1980's. In the years since, they have resurfaced from obscurity and been elevated from the status of "prehistoric graffiti" to a place that is rightly held as sacred by many Native Americans.
Paul is former president of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology and board member of the Eastern States Rock Art Research Association, and has also associated with Native American elders and teachers for many years. In his presentation, he melds these experiences and knowledge to bring insight into the meanings and purpose of this special place.
The cost for the lecture is $10/person. Due to limited seating, advance registration is required. Light refreshments will be served.
Registration is available online via our website www.SusquehannaHeritage.org, or by calling 717-252-0229 ext. 4. Proceeds benefit the operations and programs of Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area.
