Community Arts Connection
CONGRATULATIONS!
On February 25, at the Heart of Danville Annual Awards Luncheon, the Community Arts Center was recognized with the Heart and Soul Award for Downtown Excellence for 2011!

The Heart and Soul award is presented to a person, group or business that puts their "heart" into preserving our downtown. This award could also be called the "Heart and SOLE" award for someone that "walks the walk" when it comes to preserving Main Street.

Thanks to the wonderful support of the Danville/Boyle County community and volunteeres that help make so many of our events possible! We are very honored to receive the Heart and Soul award.

Kentucky Foundation for the Arts unveils specialty license plate!

Kentuckians can now show their support for the arts with a license plate designed by Louisville artist Jeaneen Barnhart.

Drivers choosing the "Experience the Arts!" plate can designate support for arts organizations that receive Kentucky Arts Partnership funding from the Kentucky Arts Council.

Before the plates can go into production, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet must receive at least 900 applications with a $25 contribution. License plate applications can be accessed HERE!

The plate features progressive line drawings of a horse and jockey in full gallop with the slogan "Experience the Arts!" Barnhart is known for work depicting richly textured equine themes.

GRAND HALL
Barry Morrison-"Between the Eternities; The Art of Barry Morrison"

Barry Morrison, a Kentucky native currently residing in Danville, is joining the Community Arts Center for a second time with his show, "Between the Eternities." Morrison, an abstract expressionist artist born in Red River Gorge, Kentucky, exhibits his work throughout the state, nation, and world in private, public, corporate, university, and international art collections. From the Community Arts Center in Danville, Kentucky to the Saatchi Gallery of Contemporary Art in Chelsea, London, Barry Morrison's work provides emotional satisfaction for many viewers. According to Jaenet Guggenheim of the Guggenheim Global Art Museums Family in Sante Fe, New Mexico, "The art Barry Morrison makes is extraordinary. I'm aware of no other abstract expressionist artist that has ever achieved the emotional content and the overall melding of colors and depth that his paintings convey. His art is astounding."

Morrison says that as he begins to paint his purpose is to "find" the completed work which has already been created in his mind. Each piece is unique, none the same as the next. "My only purpose is to allow the painting to become everything that I as an artist and that God, as the creator of all things, intended that it should be," states Morrison. His passion is articulated through his use of color to create depth and lack of a focal point, allowing the viewer to get "lost" in the painting. While Barry Morrison honestly admits that he paints for himself, perhaps one of his greatest accomplishments is touching the lives of so many people through the emotion each piece solicits.

Join us to view Barry Morrison's captivating exhibit here during the month of March.

Morrison's works are for sale, with prices ranging from $500 to $2,500.

FARMERS NATIONAL BANK GALLERY
Aaron Raitiere-"Stuff and Things"

Aaron Raitiere, originally from Danville, grew up in a musical family surrounded by the sounds of bluegrass, folk and blues music. While attending college in Ithaca, New York, he formed his first band, Woodman.Milkman.Doctor.

Not one for sitting idle, Raitiere left Florida to pursue an education at Middle Tennessee State University and, in 2009, graduated from the audio engineering program. He was exceedingly prolific as he "churned out songs by the notebook-full" and began several projects, including a childrens' album entitled "Songs for Cool Kids". The record was jointly released under Raitiere's label, One Tooth Records, and Old Boy in December of 2010.  Geared toward cool kids and cool adults alike, the songs mix Raitiere's trademark wit and imagination with a down home country blues sound.

The multi-talented Aaron Raitiere is exhibiting his art work at the Arts Center through March in the Farmers National Bank Gallery. His witty "sketches and scribbles" vary from ink drawings on 3 x 5 canvases to larger pieces such as the monkey. (pictured)

Like his music, Raitiere's exhibit featuring nearly 100 pieces combines colorful characters in humorous surroundings-quick, simple, and to the point. Prices range from $7 to $1,700.

YOU'RE INVITED! Join us for our Exhibiting Artists' Reception on Thursday, March 10, from 6-8p.m. The reception will feature live music by both Barry Morrison and Aaron Raitiere! The reception is free and open to the public.
