Lunch with the Arts Wednesday, December 15, Noon -1p.m.
Featuring: Bruce Richardson
New England society was captivated by all things Japanese at the turn of the 20th century as Okakura Kakuzo become Curator of Asian Arts at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Even art patroness Isabella Stewart Gardner, known for her opulent tea parties, requested the mysterious oriental teach her the Japanese Tea Ceremony in her grand Fenway palazzo. It was there that East met West as the tea ceremony and the tea party came face-to-face and the Book of Tea came to be written in 1906.
Bruce Richardson has been on the trail of Okakura Kakuzo for six years preparing his 2011 edition of the timeless Book of Tea. Join us as the Perryville author will share the adventures, scandals, and incredible influences this Japanese artist had upon the lives of many American art icons, including John Singer Sargent, Frank Lloyd Wright and Georgia O'Keefe.
About Bruce Richardson MSN and The Wall Street Journal both call Bruce Richardson "A leading expert in America's tea renaissance for over 20 years."
The nationally-known tea blender, author, speaker, and longtime resident of Perryville spends much of his time educating Americans in the art of infusing tea into a healthy lifestyle.
Bruce knows England's tea scene as well as anyone. He travels regularly throughout the UK chronicling tea rooms for his pictorial book The Great Tea Rooms of Britain. He is co-author of The National Trust of England reference book, The New Tea Companion and producer of the Tea in the City travel guides to London and Paris. He serves as editor for the 2011 edition of The Classic Book of Tea.
Bruce has served on the Advisory Committee for the Specialty Tea Institute of America, the editorial board of Fresh Cup magazine, and is the Perfect Cup columnist for TeaTime magazine.
Bruce is a long time supporter of the arts. He was the founding director of the Danville Children's Choir for 15 years and served on the first board for the Boyle County Arts Commission. For seven years, he volunteered his leadership skills as mayor of Perryville and now chairs the Perryville Battlefield Preservation Association.
Bruce and his wife Shelley are the owners of Elmwood Inn Fine Teas and its publishing division Benjamin Press. Their mission is to share the ancient ideal that tea is a lifestyle - not a commodity.
To reserve a catered box lunch ($10), make your reservation online by 5p.m. Monday, November 15, by clicking here or call to order: (859) 236-4054. Participants also may bring their own lunch with $5 admission at the door.
Every third Wednesday of the month, the CAC will present a featured artist who will present and demonstrate his or her work, with time available for discussion with the artist. The monthly arts series will feature everything from literary arts to performing, theatrical and visual arts.

BELLY DANCING - Weekly Sessions, Mondays 7-8p.m. Middle Eastern Dance (more commonly known as Belly Dance) is a traditional dance rich in history that gained American popularity in the burlesque shows of the 20's and again with renaissance festivals in the 80's. Many different styles have evolved from the traditional form, but one thing has become apparent in all of them: shaking your fanny is good for you! This dance form, unlike hopping on the tread mill at the gym, gets your heart pumping & engages arms, mid-section, bottom, and thighs to give attention to muscles often ignored. Its a great way to get energized & have fun and is excellent for any skill level since you begin with a basic move & add difficulty for a more intense work out as you become more comfortable with the steps. Making time for yourself shouldn't be a luxury, so come join us, shake out the stress, and find your own inner diva! Contact instructor heatherpgreen@yahoo.com to find out more about the November 'bring a friend' special! Tai Chi - Weekly hour long sessions, Mondays 8:30a.m.
