July Exhibits GRAND HALL
The Art of the Horse by Sandra Oppegard
Oppegard's works, on loan from the Cross Gate Gallery in Lexington, give us more than a subtle reminder of why Kentucky is known as the Horse Capital of the World. Her watercolors, breathtaking and enthusiastic, capture the essence of equine art throughracing scenes authenticity combined with the colorful work of trainers, grooms, and exercise riders. As a result, Sandra Oppegard's work has become a favorite of those within the horse business.
Oppegard's use of color along with smooth brush strokes creates eye-catching realistic pieces, making this an exhibit you do not want to miss! Do not be surprised if one or more of these pieces captivates you so much that you want to purchase it off the wall. Oppegard's artwork will remain on display at the CAC thru the end of July, all of which will be for sale to the public.
FARMERS NATIONAL BANK GALLERY Bill Fletcher
Perhaps some of most memorable moments of Kentucky summers are the late evening hours when the heat vanishes and we are left with a unique combination of a pink and purple sunset over the rolling hills. Bill Fletcher is very familiar with this scene as illustrated in his exceptional oil paintings of Kentucky Landscapes. Fletcher's works, ranging from Shaker Village to The Red River, Raven Run, and anything in between, certainly exemplifying Kentucky's beautiful landscapes and treasured views of nature.
Fletcher states, "Creativity is at its heart, not about ego, but about connection. The paintings in this exhibit are an expression of my connection to the land of Kentucky," which is conveyed throughout each piece. You've never seen the view of Kentucky like this before, so make sure to stop by and enjoy.
About twenty of Fletcher's oil landscapes are on display at the CAC, all of which are available to purchase. Why not invest in a timeless piece? LOCKHART GALLERY Up, Up, and Away!

Lydia has recently been named conductor of Danville's Advocate Messenger Band, who will be performing at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in October. Don't miss out on Lydia's delightful performance!
About the Artist
Lydia DiMartino-Ellis is the library media specialist at Bate Middle School where she is "instrumental" in advancing Arts & Humanities studies.
Lydia is the director of both the new Bate Jazz Ensemble and Rhythm and Percussion (RAP) Ensemble, and is director/producer of The "Meth"OD, an original theatrical production created by Bate Middle and Danville High School students that addresses the dangers of Methamphetamine use, production, sale, and its role in creating a destructive drug culture in communities and its schools. The final production has been performed at Danville High School, National Methamphetamine Awareness Day at the capitol in Frankfort, the Kentucky Crime Prevention Coalition Youth Prevention Conference, and the Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference.
Ms. DiMartino-Ellis has studied with many noted flutists, including James Galway, Leone Buyse-Webster, and Mindy Kaufman. As piccolo soloist with the Advocate Messenger Band and The New Columbian Brass Band, she has devoted herself to mastering the stylistic and technical demands of the turn-of-the-century piccolo solos which were features of the band concerts of the day. To reserve a catered box lunch ($10), make your reservation online at least 24 hours in advance by clicking here. Participants also may bring their own lunch, with $5 admission at the door.
Every third Wednesday of the month, the CAC will present a featured artist who will present and demonstrate his or her work, with time available for discussion with the artist. The monthly arts series will feature everything from literary arts to performing, theatrical and visual arts. |

Nationally-known artist and Stodghill Professor of Art at Danville's Centre College Sheldon Tapley will serve as juror. Artists are asked to submit work (both two-and three-dimensional) that reflects and expresses the theme of contemporary landscape, while demonstrating creativity, strength of execution, and overall artistic excellence. Selected works will be on display at the CAC during the months of October and November 2010. All visual media will be considered, but must have been completed since January 2007 and not previously shown in any other CAC exhibitions.
