BOOK SIGNING-Friday, June 11
Heather Henson
Heather Henson was born and raised in Danville, Kentucky, a small town in the heart of the Bluegrass. She grew up in a summerstock theater her father founded in 1950. As a girl she dreamed of becoming an actress, but after moving to New York City to attend the Eugene Lang College of the New School for Social Research, she found herself drawn to books and writing. "Books and stories were always a huge part of my life," Ms. Henson says. "My mother read to me every night and my father told me 'one minute stories' before I fell asleep." For many years, Ms. Henson lived in Brooklyn and worked as an editor of books for young readers at a major publishing house. She recently returned to her home state in order to focus on her own writing, which has always been strongly influenced by her Kentucky roots. Ms. Henson's first novel for young adults, Making the Run, was published by Joanna Cotler Books/HarperCollins Publishers. It was chosen as a New York Public Library Book for the Teen Age. Her next novel for middle grade readers, Here's how I see it/Here's how it is and another picture book, Grumpy Grandpa were published by Atheneum in 2009.
DREAM OF NIGHT
Once full of promise and life, now lost in the shadows of abuse. This is Dream of Night's story-and it is also Shiloh's. One is a Thoroughbred racehorse, the other a twelve-year-old foster child. By chance they both find themselves under the care of Jessalyn DiLima-a final stop for each before the state takes more drastic measures. If this doesn't work out, the girl will be sent to a "residential facility" and the horse to a vet . . . for euthanizing. This is their last chance, so why are they both so resistant? And why can't they see that Jessie's life is not as easy as it seems? She fosters animals and children like them for a reason-she's a little broken too. And, like Shiloh and Dream of Night, Jessie knows what it means to have lost nearly everything you love. A story of hope and healing, Dream of Night reminds us all that the most important bonds in life are never forged by force, and that the darkness of night will eventually give way to dawn. Publication date: May, 2010
Book Signing: A public book signing will take place as part of the Gallery Hop at the CAC on Friday, June 11, from 5:30-8 p.m. to celebrate her newest book, Dream of Night! |

Lunch with the Arts
Wednesday, June 16 @ Noon -1p.m.
Featuring: Holly Henson, Theatre
Join us June 16 as we welcome Holly Henson, who according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, is "Ruthlessly funny!...can make you laugh so hard your filling's ache!"
Holly recently won a 2-year fight over stage-four breast cancer and says that her new mission in life is to change the world "one outdoor theatre at a time." In the winter, Holly lives in the Twin Cities where she raised over $4,000 last year, for breast cancer awareness while performing a standup routine with a message of hope. "Cancer is not all doom and gloom. I lost 30 pounds, I met great people, I learned what matters and what doesn't, I learned how to live a happier life?and did I mention, I lost 30 pournds?" Holly says she looks forward to sharing her passion for Danville and the arts with those who care about raising the happiness-level, for all.
About the Artist Thirteen years ago, Holly met the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life living with...and much to everyone's surprise, she actually married him! Today they have two black labs, a fixer-upper in the suburbs, and a woodpecker that loves cedar singing. At night, Holly loves to ditch the housework and raise a little hell on heels! She is one of the most popular acts in the Twin Cities and can be heard regularly on radio programs throughout the country. In 2002, she was first runner up winner in the tri-state comedy contest, "The Twin Cities Laff Off," placing over 300 of the region's top comics. Five years ago she was the host of "The Big Bad Movie" for Hubbard Broadcasting/Ch. 45, writing and performing over 150 hours of original comedy material for prime time TV. XM Satellite Radio just named her "one of the Funniest Women Comics Working in America." Holly comes from a very theatrical family right here in Danville, Kentucky. Her parents have operated the Pioneer Playhouse for over five decades and Holly returns each summer as the Artistic Director. Don't miss out on "the suburbs funniest 'escaped housewife!' " To reserve a catered box lunch ($10), make your reservation online at least 24 hours in advance by clicking here. Participants also may bring their own lunch, with $5 admission at the door.
Every third Wednesday of the month, the CAC will present a featured artist who will present and demonstrate his or her work, with time available for discussion with the artist. The monthly arts series will feature everything from literary arts to performing, theatrical and visual arts. |
A New Face...
Jenny Jacoby jumping on board
Jenny Jacoby, a recent graduate from Centre College, officially began as the Marketing Director on May 26th and is very excited to be part of the CAC team! She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in music with emphasis on economics and is ready to put her liberal arts education to great use here. Jenny was a member of Centre Singers and Centre College Choir for four years and served in several leadership positions throughout campus. Her experience studying abroad in Strasbourg, France helped her gain many new ideas for the arts and arts education. She looks forward to creating a new liason between the CAC and Centre as well as shaping the outreach within the community. "One of my goals is for the Community Arts Center to become recognized in the forefront of the arts within the state. We offer so much from exhibits to events and classes, that everyone should have the opportunity to take part in such a rich and diverse arts culture that Danville/Boyle County and the Community Arts Center have to offer."
